During the 18th century, art was one of the primary means of communication. It also helped to preserve the people’s tradition. A majority of the people believed in the existence of religion and the deities. There were various arguments concerning culture. Jean-Antoine made a significant advance in the work of art by drawing the Pilgrimage to Cythera.
Jean-Antoine Watteau was a French painter who lived in the years 1684-1721. He was famous for the out-of-door gallant parties he depicted through his work. The artwork portrayed eventful fashion and social gallantry (Crawford 212). On one occasion he painted the Pilgrimage to Cythera. According to ancient mythology, Cythera was the birthplace for Venus, the goddess of love. The place was an Island of love. Lovers used to go to the Island using boats and dhows to honor Venus.
The painter reveals the activities of that time. On the right side of the paint is the goddess, Venus. There is a crowd that has had its time on the Island. The cupids are hovering above their heads. The sun is just setting, and it means that the time is up. The pilgrims have to leave the Island. The painter portrays them as being sorrowful. They are hesitant to get back to the real world. Some people even glance back showing that they are very reluctant to go back home (Gough and Musashi 301).
In the contemporary society, such paintings are valuable assets. Organizations have set up various locations for trade in the ancient collections. As such, the paintings have become assets. They increase in value as years go by and become very expensive in the long run (Crawford and Eva 103). A buyer can get the painting to keep it as an asset. Just like the prices of land go up so does the price of this painting. The new owner can decide when to sell it as long as he or she has to liquidate the asset for cash. The owner can sell the paint at a profit.
Some businesses are seeking to increase their asset value. In a firm, it is critical for the assets’ value to be higher than the liabilities. Some of the property includes the long-term ones and the short term ones. The paint can become an asset on the balance sheet (Gornick and Markus 260). If the company keeps it for the long term, then there will be appreciation in value each year. The long-term returns will be helpful for the success of the business in the future. The paint is not very expensive to maintain as an asset. The buildings and other property usually require costly adjustments. However, if the firm has to keep it for the short term, it will still sell it at a profit. Its value appreciates even as it changes ownership.
Some buyers trade in ancient artifacts. For instance, they buy the paintings and other collections at a given price. They then sell the products at a profitable fee within a short time. The Pilgrimage to Cythera can become a tool for trade. The traders can keep transferring ownership at a profit (Xu and Quaddus 232).
Various countries and business people have stocked up historical information about the past. They use such information to do business (Crawford 212). They charge a fee for maintenance and business upkeep. Jean-Antoine’s painting can become one of the artifacts in the tourist attraction center. The buyers can keep them in the museum or other locations where they charge a fee for photo sessions and viewing.
During the lovers’ days, the painting can become an inspiration to the people who mean so much to each other. The owners of the painting can make small prototype portraits of the Pilgrimage to Cythera and include some love messages. They can sell the products especially on Valentine’s Day to lovers.
The paint can also become an inspiration for learning in the colleges and universities. They can purchase it for learning sessions about history and religion (Crawford and Eva 103). Learning is exciting if it combines the oral knowledge with the visual images. The promotion can enhance the purchase of such materials for learning purposes. It is a way of spreading information at a fee.
The betting companies normally have a winning formula for the competitors. They usually use several means to raise funds for the winners. The paint can become the item for betting. For instance, they can ask the public to give information about the items on the painting and the meaning (Bowie 352). They can do so by first making a special payment or calling for a fee. The winner gets a given amount of money from the lottery.
The painting can also be a fundraising item for a given cause. Participants can fundraise for cancer or any social need in the community. It can be a walk that involves holding the portrait of the work or as a symbol of bringing people together for the event.
Ancient works are still reliable today. They are also profitable for business. The paintings are good reminders of the past and heritage to live with today.
