A nurse is a qualified assistant to a doctor in all areas of his work. Today, the nurse performs many duties caring for the sick, communicating with their relatives, and advising on controversial issues. Nursing, however, requires good practice and professional training since nurses are responsible for patients’ health. At the same time, a nurse can assist a healthy person if he needs it. It is not enough to want to become a nurse, it is essential to develop all possible skills in the medical field and the field of communication.
Every nurse has gone a long way to realize they want to work in this field. Many people have experienced extreme life situations that pushed them towards this. There was not a specific moment in my life but a series of events that led me to the idea of whom I wanted to be. Even in elementary school, my character was formed so that I always helped other children. This could manifest itself in different ways, hints about homework, borrowing a notebook or pen, and the like. Then it seemed to me that this was a simple manifestation of politeness and good breeding, and so it was. However, later our dog broke his paw, and his mother took him to the veterinary clinic. There I watched how the doctor treats wounds and puts a splint. The whole process interested me very much, and I wanted to support somehow the dog that was my friend. It was the first time I experienced such compassion and sympathy, and it became interesting to me what it was like to help animals and people. This moment makes it unique that it was my first conscious desire for a future profession. Before that, I did not think about what I wanted to grow up to be, so the awareness of nursing came suddenly. Not just at school but as a doctor or nurse in a hospital full-time. At that moment, the thought came to me that I wanted to become a nurse and dedicate my life to making other people healthy and joyful. I then shared this desire with my parents, who supported my decision.
My parents had little influence on my desire to become a nurse since I had already decided what I would be before their support. However, despite this, the fact that they accepted my choice certainly helped me to understand better and feel what I wanted. Mom then began to tell me different things about working in the hospital that she had heard from her cousin, the nurse. It was interesting to listen to her, and each new piece of information about work in this area gave me confidence that I want to learn more about this profession. Therefore, I started reading much literature about the history of nursing and its responsibilities.
Skills and abilities, however, are hard to pick up from books, so this area of my skill needs to be improved. Education is crucial for nurses as they have to be in direct contact with patients and stay close to them at all times. In any emergency, a nurse must be able and know how to act correctly and quickly to help a person and possibly save a life. In order to appropriately assist, I need to improve my skills since my knowledge in the field of pharmacology and psychology is insufficient. Communication with the patient and their relatives is an integral part of the nurse’s job, and these skills need to be improved. Pharmacology, in turn, is also an essential element of the work since the nurse must understand medicines.
In terms of gaining knowledge, I can say that I brought a positive influence from my past when I leafed through books about medicine and, specifically, nursing. I still remember some interesting things from there, such as the story about Florence Nightingale. When I first read about her, I was struck by how strong this woman had a spirit and a will to change the status quo. There was no negative influence that I could bring to my experience from the past because I wanted to become a nurse too much.
I would like to dedicate my activity to work as a nurse and scientific work and research. The topic of learning something new is exciting and could be of benefit to medicine if successful. As a result of the activity, I would like to explore issues related to past experiences, such as pharmacology, and new topics as prescriptive powers. These are current research questions as many states have ongoing discussions about allowing trainee nurses to prescribe drugs. This may have a positive impact on the future practice of nursing. In the future, I see myself as a qualified nurse working in a clinic. I love my job and helping patients, so I am constantly improving my skills and becoming a head nurse. I would like the people I work with to remember me as someone who has never let a single patient or colleague down. It must be difficult, but this is the goal I want to strive for.
In conclusion, it should be said that nursing is one of the professions that people need. Without proper care and around-the-clock assistance, it will be much more difficult for patients to recover. In addition, nurses should be involved in public health programs, which is also an important and valuable task. This work can bring into many people’s lives the difficulties associated with study and great responsibility. However, it pays off with a sense of work done in the future.
