Today, the KIPP Academy of Intelligence and Curiosity announced that it is happy to begin the long-awaited student enrollment process. This magnet school is waiting for the most gifted and responsible learners, as well as those willing to become more hardworking and skilled, to become a part of its welcoming, diverse, and optimistic culture.
The primary focus of the KIPP Academy of Intelligence and Curiosity is to nurture gifted students, reveal the talents and abilities of each learner, prepare them for successful admission to colleges, and make them unique individuals with strong social and emotional intelligence. At the KIPP Academy of Intelligence and Curiosity, there will be no place for discrimination, inequality, negative attitudes, and immoral behaviors, meaning that all kids will feel safe, welcomed, and accepted.
During the lessons, teachers and students will have access to the most modern, effective, and high-quality educational materials appropriate for different age categories. To keep pace with innovation, teachers will use electronic boards and projectors, while all textbooks and learning aids will be selected based on recommendations of local and state officials. Children will be provided access to the academy’s learning portal, where they will find online assessments, interactive tasks, updated news, additional toolkits, and other informative materials. When referring to the academy’s assessment plan, students will take annual standardized tests in all grade levels and all basic classes. What is more, teachers will assess their learners’ performance weekly or bi-weekly, giving different engaging tasks. Unit assessments will also be included.
The academy’s educators are referred to as experienced professionals who enjoy working with children and are willing to become their mentors. Apart from the required degrees, experience of not less than three years, and teaching certifications and licenses, there are some basic criteria for educators who work at the KIPP Academy of Intelligence and Curiosity. These teachers have growth mindsets, a deep understanding of themselves and their students, and are ready to meet innovation and development. They can always create joyful, safe, and engaging environments to keep their students’ attention. Finally, the academy’s educators regularly improve their knowledge by attending training programs. As for students, there are no specific admissions requirements. The academy is willing to accept all kids, help them in their learning journey, and make them hardworking, intelligent, welcoming diversion, and ready to enter the world of adulthood. Children with special needs are also expected in the academy because its educators can adapt classroom activities and maintain an accepting and safe environment.
It will be essential for the KIPP Academy of Intelligence and Curiosity to ensure parents’ expectations are met throughout each academic year. Therefore, families will be encouraged to attend school meetings twice a year, and there will also be individual parent-teacher conferences four times a year. Apart from this, there will be 15 hours per year that every student’s family will need to attend programs and events sponsored by the academy, as recommended by the National Resource Center on Charter School Finance & Governance (n.d.). Noticeably, a special role will be given to student community service – by volunteering and helping homeless and low-income people or seniors, children will learn to be empathetic, caring, loving, and impactful.
The facility is designed to meet all learners’ needs, and the safeguarded closed territory includes sports areas, a park, parking lots for students and their parents, a canteen, a medical unit, and a separate arts building. The academy’s principal and other leaders use the servant leadership model, and authority is achieved instead of power.
