Fantasy creates the love and political themes in the movie. The flashback concept reveals Chilsu’s relationship with his sister in Miami. Jina is the girlfriend of Chilsu. Chilsu fantasizes about the future life he will have with Jina in America, but the dreams tarnish after breaking up. Police and the military in Korea are strict in their work and destroy the fantasies of the main characters about a bright future outside Korea.

Koreans show no passion in their work, for example, Chilsu abandons his work of art and becomes Mansu’s assistance. Chilsu and Mansu enjoy working together. Later in the film, the police misunderstand the fantasy of the two main characters leading to serious injuries to Mansu and the arrest of Chilsu. The flashback of the military drill shows the political change South Koreans are planning toward North Koreans.

In relation to Kim (139), Korean men played a crucial role in the post-colonial process. The book gives the roots of South Korean society and relates to the current condition of the country. South Korea is talented in television, cinema, drama, and idols. The concept of art receives dynamism in the industrialization era resulting in the commercialization of the artwork. South Korean residents started evading reality as early as post-colonial times, and the concept of fantasy resulted in the development of films that explore Korean character traits.

The Korean society lived in denial, but in the current situation, Koreans have accepted the nature of fantasy in their lives and are bringing a good advancement in social development. Although the film industry plays a huge role in the fantasy of Koreans, the reality in Korean society creates a sense toward cinema production.

Chilsu and Mansu are the main characters in the movie. The characters can communicate efficiently with each other and express their ideas to society. Efficiency in communication makes the main characters have connections with tycoons in Korea and benefit from their income. Although Chilsu and Mansu have problems with income generation, their frustrations do not deny them a chance to interact with the working-class people in the community.

The ability of the characters to express themselves to each other makes them confide in their secrets. Chilsu and Mansu make a decision about climbing up a billboard and express their frustration. Misunderstanding of communication appears between the main characters and the police. The police thought that Chilsu and Mansu wanted to commit suicide, but the main characters were expressing the frustrations the Korean working class faced in their daily duties.

Communication is essential as it increases interaction and understanding among the members of society. It is through communication that South Korean society is managing to make books, television shows, dramas, and plays that are marketable outside the Korean territory. During the 1980s, Korean films did not impress society due to poor predictions on the wants of the community. The new generation filmmakers make an extensive reconnaissance study before film production to incorporate the wants of the community in the final script of the cinema. The commercial success of Korean films is based on communication.

The production industry makes important decisions in formulating genres of films. Relating to Kim (142), male characters in the film play roles of spreading hopeful messages to working-class individuals and advocating for change in the working environment.
