Las Vegas and Boston have been always regarded as among the largest cities in the USA. The cities have different locations in different ends of the US territory, different histories, and origins. But both are similarly popular. Vegas – for gambling, Boston – for schools.
Las Vegas
It is the most inhabited city in Nevada, and an internationally recognized main resort city for the gambling industry and entertainment. Las Vegas, known as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is renowned for the casino resorts and the entertainment associated with the gambling industry. Las Vegas was named by the Spanish, who found artesian wells on this territory while heading North West from Texas. Because of artesian waters, there were extensive green meadows (vegas in Spanish), so, the place was named simply Las Vegas.
Now, the city has the status of an American organized crime center. All of the large casinos were funded by well-known crime authorities Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and Meyer Lansky, and the pleasure of gambling in Las Vegas casinos is difficult to beat. From sports bets to poker, Las Vegas gaming opportunities are immense.
The steady flow of tourist finances from the hotels and casinos was increased by a new resource of federal finances. These finances now come from the foundation of Nellis Air Force Base. The arrival of military personnel and casino job- and luck-seekers reasoned the beginning of a land-building boom that continues currently.
Although the city’s gambling financial structure goes on expanding, in 2006 gambling incomes in the Macau Special Administrative Region in the People’s Republic of China exceeded those in Las Vegas, making Macau the biggest gaming center in the world. But still, Las Vegas stays the most well-known place for second chances.
Boston
Boston is the capital and largest city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The city is situated in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, in the northeastern part of the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is regarded as the economic and cultural capital of the entire region. It was founded on September 17, 1630, by Puritan migrants from England.
Boston shares lots of cultural origins with greater New England, entailing a dialect of the non-rhotic Eastern New England dialect known as Boston English, and local cuisine with a huge emphasis on marines, rum, salt, and casual products. Irish Americans had serious control of Boston’s politics and religious organizations. Boston also has its own set of neologisms known as Boston slang, and all these factors shaped unique dialects.
Boston has always been the capital of culture and schooling. Home of Harvard University and Paul Revere, Boston has experienced a renaissance since the eminent interstate highways were built underground. The downtown has turned to be a place where the citizens could have a pastime again.
There is a wide range of schools and other educational establishments there. The greater fact is that Boston, Massachusetts urban area provides a range of private school choices – over sixty institutions. There are also over thirty-seven colleges and universities.
Boston’s position as the Athens of America originates in large part from the education and research activities of the colleges and universities situated in the Greater Boston Area.
Boston is quite accessible from almost any part of the world, including European countries.
It should be stated, that these two cities shape the contemporary image of the United States in the world arena, and probably, this country would not look so powerful, attractive, and of wide options. Located in different parts of the country, Las Vegas and Boston symbolize the line, which unites all the 50 states, like away from gambling and dissipated life to spiritual culture and education.
Boston public schools system is the oldest and the most reliable in the United States. Las Vegas casinos are known all over the world and are the first place where people wish to catch fortune. These points of comparison are not aimed to decide which city is better, and which is worse. It is just a sketch to point out the capabilities of such a powerful country as the United States of America. People work, earn their living, spend money, and entertain just by drinking beer in a pub.
These two poles are created to remind people that there are more significant things than beer. People should study, develop, expand their knowledge, and never forget real entertainment. Gambling is not the highest entertainment, but it is necessary to keep in mind, that sometimes there are particular moments in life when Hit or Miss is the only principle, and everything should be put on the table to win more!
