Both Ashley’s and Chris’s organizations are in the education industry and as much as the functions of the operations departments in both schools are the same as they deal with the needs of the students’ e.g. enrollment, facilities, events and graduation they differ in the academics functions as we see the University of Phoenix academic department handling all degree programs and class schedules ( Dick, 2011, 1), as well as student grade issues which mainly entails building classes, arranging and assigning faculty classes and schedules, handling grade issues and payments for the faculty. Chris’s chart on the same organization shows that the same responsibilities are shared between the academics and finance department which establishes the payments plans for different students collects all payments and balances at the same time monitoring the students’ spending while on campus.
Karen’s organizational functions differ in that the operations departments handles the company’s major operations which including purchasing of merchandise while the finance department Processes payrolls, leave request with the help of the human resources department which deals with insurance, payrolls, policies and training of the soldiers. The accounts departments then budget the funds of the organization, keeps track of the credit cards and makes sure that the soldiers get their bonuses when they should (Insights, 2011, 1). The marketing department in turn handles all sales issues especially ideas on how different groups of soldiers can have better performance. Also organizing community events and public education programs making sure that technology is up to date at all times to get new recruits interested at all times.
Traci’s organization is also service oriented but also has different functionalities in the different departments compared to the other organizations (Harvard Business School, 2011, 1). The operations department exclusively dealing with customer care which includes having the customer care representatives stationed here, clerical work, claims and hearings being dealt with here as well. The HR department on the other hand dealing with the personnel records of employees. As well as receiving and maintaining a database of potential eligible employees. HR also does the training of newly hired staff as well as other employees in the other departments and finally managing the payroll of the whole organization.
The accounts department then handles capital expenditures in the organization as well as setting budgets aided by the finance department which mainly manages and maintains the budget already set and allocated by the accounts department (Peter, 2011, 1). After which they communicate the yearly budget numbers to management to enable them make decisions based on these allocations. The marketers’ role is in public relations which mainly involves representatives going to different locations to talk about the program which creates awareness. All this departments are then supported by the management of the company which plans and organizes the organizations activities. They plan the yearly goals and review statistics to assess the progress of the organization as well as managing the budget and making the necessary decisions. Whatever directives are issued by management have to be put in place making it the most powerful department in the organization.
