In the USA, the creation of federal statutory law involves the representatives from all states. The US Congress controls the legislative process, providing two chambers with an opportunity to share their responsibilities (Johnson, Oppenheimer, & Selin, 2012). In this way, the members of Senate and the House of Representatives are to be discussed, because the focus on their activities allows developing a legislative matrix.
Senators
Each state has two senators (senior and junior), and Nevada is not an exception. It is represented by Dean Heller and Catherine Cortez Masto. Heller is a member of four Senate committees, including those focused on banking housing and urban affairs; finance; commerce, science, and transportation; and veterans’ affairs. In addition to that, he was appointed to “the Energy and Natural Resources Committee; the Commerce Science, and Transportation Committee; and the Special Committee on Aging” (Dean Heller, 2017, para. 3). In this way, he mainly sponsors those bills that are focused on the associated issue areas. Catherine Cortez Masto, in her turn, is a member of several committees that are the same with Heller. For instance, she belongs to Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and the Special Committee on Aging. In addition to that, she represents those that are focused on energy and natural resources; and Indian affairs (Catherine Cortez Masto, 2017). Previously she was appointed as a Chief of Staff and Assistant County Manager.
Congressman & Representative
Nevada consists of four Congress Districts that have their own representatives. For instance, the member of the fourth one is Ruben Kihuen who belongs to the Democratic Party. Before holding this position, he was appointed to the State Assembly. Even though he sits only on the House Committee on Financial Services, he is interested in a range of issues, such as those associated with public lands, healthcare, veterans, and immigration (Rep. Ruben J. Kihuen, 2017). Moreover, this congressman does his best to ensure that seniors can receive the dignified retirement, learners can have unproblematic access to education, and Nevada citizens avoid unemployment. Being one of the four members of the US House of Representatives who came from Nevada, he successfully manages to reveal its interests.
Governor
The Governor of the state is Brian Sandoval who holds his position for the second term already. He is a Chairman of “the Board of Finance, Board of Examiners, Board of Prison Commissioners, Board of Pardon Commissioners, Board of Transportation, Commission on Homeland Security, Board of Economic Development, and the Gaming Policy Committee” (The Official State of Nevada Website, 2017, para. 7). Moreover, Brian Sandoval pays special attention to the issues faced by veterans and drug abuse among the citizens of Nevada. In this way, he signed those bills that increased taxes on retail marijuana sales and supported the development of criteria for its packing and advertising. In addition to that, he revealed his interest associated with sexual misconduct and urged a license suspension or elimination for it. Finally, he supported the establishment of the state recreation area that is expected to benefit citizens of Nevada.
Thus, it can be concluded that Nevada has a lot of representatives in the Congress who manage to reveal the interests of their state successfully. Many of them are concerned about similar issue areas, but there are specific topics as well. In this way, they address the majority of problems faced by both Nevada and the whole country.
