Introduction
Works written sometimes are not just for mere satisfaction or means of enhancing once financial base or write-ups written out of fiction, but in most cases, the zeal usually emanates as a result of past experiences in the life of which the novel,” The Wrongs of Woman ” is a product of such. In the novel, it can be seen how Wollstonecraft was portrayed to have been under a crippled condition and as such had no option than to make her flashback about the unfortunates things that have happened to her which ordinarily were too hazardous to bear or to contain in view of trying to create or maintain her brevity and keep her great courage or tries to bring out other admirable qualities. As a result of this disastrous experience, she then had a wider knowledge about circumstances one is likely to find him/herself in, and as a direct consequence of this, she decided to write about the women stating clearly the way in which womanhood issue should be dealt with.
Her series of research work also has shown that women were treated in a very disrespectful manner been embarrassed by all sought of assaults, also always denied their basic rights irrespective of their level in society. This can be justified by the fact that most of the people criticized her in some of the novels she wrote, they revealed clearly how life was so miserable for her, they went on to include details of how her parents were not supportive and how she was parasite relying solely on female friends who turn out not to render assistance deliberately. As a result of all these unfortunates’ happenings, she tried to protect herself a little but rather, the story of her life was becoming very alarming and stressed up, up to the extent that she regretted being involved in the act of writing in the first place since the story included even the inner-most parts of her life situations such that it could no longer hide anything concerning her life.
Libertinism: The Wrongs of Women
It will be imperative to have a basic understanding of the underlying concept so that the preceding discussions can be clearly understood. Various schools of thought have undergone research relating to this field and come up with different views but for the purpose of this work, it can be as explained as a way or manner in which people live or behaved which is usually noticed or identified as an act of not yielding to another person’s wish and not relenting in any life desires mostly the one that has to with sex usually with different kinds of persons, and refusal to adhere to religion and another lay down authorities. Reading through about the middle of the book, a relationship was created by Maria on how her work can be understood by others not be different from the context of the one she has packaged for her daughter.
She further went ahead to narrate the way in which their eldest brother, Robert was most cherished by their parents more than the other of their siblings and the way in which he passes judgment in a tyrant manner demanding no contributions nor suggestions from anybody. In view of trying to avoid this kind of life situation, one of the siblings named Maria went to stay with who were very close to them and eventually had affection for their neighbor’s son who was called George Venables. Despite the fact George Venables portrays himself to be a responsible and gentleman; libertinism was his true character. The condition of Maria become worse when her mother kicked the bucket and her father took a very annoying decision by adopting the housemaid to be his new wife(Maria,1778).
As a result of the present condition in Maria’s home, one of her father’s brothers, a man who was living in affluence and who loved Maria right from the onset, decided to plan In order to have a basic understanding about libertinism in the wrongs of women it and organized wedding for her not actually knowing the true behavior of the so called gentleman in which released some money to her in form of her dowry.
After staying together in the house for a while, Maria discovered her husband’s true behavior very fast, in as much as she tried to accommodate and bear the situation, the act was rather advancing. The resistance offered by her relating to sex issues proved abortive since she was forced by her husband into having which eventually resulted into an unwanted pregnancy. Maria’s uncle now been aware of this, informed her that, divorce is a legal right every individual has, so she has the right of separating from her husband. When was sold to a different person ,an attempt made by her to escape proved abortive in the first instance but she later find her way out and lived in various places mostly with women whom have been treated by their husband the same way (Wollstonecraft,1798).
She was treated, but unfortunately she was always found. When she finally decided to live the shores of the country with her infant baby when her have died already, she was then caught. The consequences she faced were that she wasn’t only imprisoned but her baby was also collected from her.
The Character Analysis of Jemima
Jemima as a character in the novel was a low class prison attendant who inspite of her status became very close to Maria who was imprisoned falsely by her husband. As they interacted, Jemima discovered that Maria wasn’t insane and decided to assist her by bringing her some books. A good number of the books were written by one of the prisoners by name Darnford, in which Maria developed affection because of his creative way of writing.As the relationship among Jemima, Maria and Darnford strengthened, Jemima decided to narrate the history of her life to them, she continued by saying she was born by an unmarried parents and the mother eventually died making her condition to be worsened. As a result of this unfortunate event that took place, she was turned into a housemaid in her home but was later sent out of the house and attached to a different person to take care of her, but the opposite was the case as she was rather maltreated and her guardian forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Conclusion
When it get to the notice of the man’s wife, she was thrown out of the house been unable to explain who was responsible. She later removed the baby and become a commercial sex worker. She later was given the job of attending to people where Maria is presently an inmate after the death of the man.
