She was treated, but unfortunately she was always found. When she finally decided to live the shores of the country with her infant baby when her have died already, she was then caught. The consequences she faced were that she wasn’t only imprisoned but her baby was also collected from her.

The Character Analysis of Jemima

Jemima as a character in the novel was a low class prison attendant who inspite of her status became very close to Maria who was imprisoned falsely by her husband. As they interacted, Jemima discovered that Maria wasn’t insane and decided to assist her by bringing her some books. A good number of the books were written by one of the prisoners by name Darnford, in which Maria developed affection because of his creative way of writing.As the relationship among Jemima, Maria and Darnford strengthened, Jemima decided to narrate the history of her life to them, she continued by saying she was born by an unmarried parents and the mother eventually died making her condition to be worsened. As a result of this unfortunate event that took place, she was turned into a housemaid in her home but was later sent out of the house and attached to a different person to take care of her, but the opposite was the case as she was rather maltreated and her guardian forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

When it get to the notice of the man’s wife, she was thrown out of the house been unable to explain who was responsible. She later removed the baby and become a commercial sex worker. She later was given the job of attending to people where Maria is presently an inmate after the death of the man.
