While describing the criteria of a strong base determining I would like to draw your attention to the main purpose of Evidence-Based Nursing. Thus, certain research findings are to be processed to increase the level of patient treatment. According to online source the principal aim of EBN is “to select from the health related literature research studies and reviews that report important advances relevant to best nursing practice.” (Evidence-Based Nursing, 2001) In other words, strong research findings influence the quality of nursing practice. The most important criterion is question formulating, e.g. the topic selection is recognized to be an issue of primary importance. However, in this respect, I would like you to take into consideration two areas, namely, problem focused triggers and knowledge focused triggers. The first area concerns with quality improvement, while the second one is related to strong research findings. One more important point which is to be taken into account is EBN team formation.

The second issue concerns with the qualitative research report findings. To be honest, I suppose that the topics which are to be studied must reflect precise information to investigate a phenomenon in a proper way; however, if the research is considered to be a feeling-based investigation some exceptions are also possible. A feeling-based investigation is supposed to be an appropriate when people who are tested suffer from serious diseases, including a malignant neoplasm, psychological scar, etc. Thus, the main purpose of the qualitative research is to understand patient experiences. There are many people who consider the kind of research less effective; however, I would like to point out that some times it is emotional empathy which is recognized to be much more important than hard data. Thus, Burnard (2004) states that “ there are many questions that research cannot answer and the researcher needs to be open to the possibility that his or her research does not answer all that many questions – and never answers any conclusively.” (p.180)

In my opinion, the most important sections of a qualitative research report are data collection method, data analysis methods and findings. Let’s consider every section in detail.

So, data collection method is related to the theory. This method can provide you with the goals of the investigator/researcher and the ways/methods some data were processed and received. Usually, the method includes numerous interviews. The ways the interviews were received is also to be described in the research; however, some details are to be omitted. So, data collection method is considered to be the first step – it is the so-called theoretical base. The method is supposed to be a preparatory stage for some further researches.

Data analysis method is the second important section. The main purpose of the method is to describe the ways data were received. Thus, the analysis allows the interviews to be described in details. The researcher is to sort the data he/she got according to certain characteristics/categories. Generally, it is the content of the interviews which is to be investigated. So, according to Law “non-verbal behaviors and the interview context are noted by the researcher and become part of the data.” (Law, M. 1998)

Findings are related to obtained discussions or, on the contrary, based on the conclusions of other investigators. One must keep in mind, that the findings should be based on above-mentioned methods.
