The use of information technology in various areas of human activity brings significant benefits. Health information technology (HIT) contributes to better and affordable care supporting public health (McBride & Teitz, 2022). Following the Federal strategic plan, using HIT is necessary to promote health and improve the provision of care (“2020-2025 Federal,” 2021). Manifest Medex is an example of technology that can enhance the quality of medical services by exchanging health information. In the case under consideration, the provider needs to change the payment plan for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), and using Manifest Medex is valuable for this task.
Treatment and management of some conditions are more complex and require much effort. In the case of CHF, symptoms may or may not appear, and there are many treatment options determined by the individual features of the disease manifestation (“Congestive heart failure,” 2022). When creating a new payment plan and a model for care, providers must take all these features into account for the treatment to be effective. Manifest Medex combines all available patient information – medical and drug history, provider involvement, discharge or hospitalization, and other data (“Why MX?” n.d.). As a result, a specialist can analyze it to determine and predict the needs of patients. This data will help select services people with CHF need and adapt the care model. Moreover, analysis tools in Manifest Medex allow envisioning possible risks and prevent unintended consequences of care (“Health information,” n.d.). After some time using the new model, the data available thanks to this technology can help measure the treatment results.
Combining health-critical information within one system provides other possibilities in addition to analyzing the patient’s condition. In particular, improving the quality of care contributes to effective communication with patients, their satisfaction, and, as a result, involvement in the process. Telehealth services are gaining popularity thanks to HIT, engaging people in care (McBride & Teitz, 2022). Moreover, Manifest Medex stakeholders believe it is necessary to include their social data in patient information to incorporate the social determinants into the treatment model (“Data exchange,” 2021). Thus, Manifest Medex, as a system for health information exchange, is valuable for selecting a care model when defining a payment plan for patients with conditions of varying complexity.
