Care after elderly people presents special difficulty in respect of health care development as far as their health is much more subject to illnesses and demands close attention. But care about elderly people, if conducted by their relatives and family members bring many problems to the latter. Therefore, the research under consideration is aimed at examining the problems that are faced by family caregivers for aged people with dementia and at developing a special program that would improve the health of the caregivers themselves as caring for their relatives, especially institutionalized, causes a lot of stress and discomfort to them.
The results of the research considered in this meta-synthesis are relevant to the topic because the research was carried out in real circumstances and with the participation of the caregivers from families whose elderly relatives were institutionalized. The research resulted in concluding that the program of securing health and recovery from stress proved to be effective but demanded further research as it was tested in one particular setting while the practice of caregivers presupposes lots of different situations (Di Censo, pp. 23 – 24).
Nevertheless, the participatory approach used in the research demonstrated its usefulness because it allowed getting the most objective data from the research and involved such a procedure as self-assessment conducted by participants. Self-assessment provided the research with data that can not be prejudiced and therefore serve as the most reliable source of information for the developers of other programs for caregivers and further research in the field of this very study (Polit, pp.21 – 25). Thus, the research conducted by Francine Ducharme, Louise Levesque, Marie Gendron, and Alain Legault is of great help for the system of health care as those that present valuable information for further research.
