Introduction
Change management is one of the key factors of business success in the modern world. Constant changes require a quick response to market transformations and customer demands. Based on various ways to adapt to changes, six main images of leadership change have been developed. The analysis of the two traded companies and the implementation of change models in the strategic plan will be performed on the example of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple with former CEO Steve Jobs and current CEO Tim Cook.
Facebook Analysis
Mark Zuckerberg’s model of managerial change is fixated on the joint and collaborative work of at least two people. Traditionally, young tech companies prefer to involve one more experienced and successful manager in management. Leadership skills worthy of promoting and implementing large projects explain the propensity to use such a model. In the case of Facebook, the basis of the management model lies in a strategic partnership. Mark Zuckerberg and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg are doing equal work to maximize the promotion and successful operation of the social network (Hall, 2021). At the moment, it is noted that Facebook has remarkable profitability and an exceptional leadership team.
This strategy fits the organization’s leaders into several models of the theory of six change management images at once. In this case, Zuckerberg acts as a director and navigator (Bamidele-Sadiq, 2018), focusing mainly on product development and the platform’s global expansion. Sandberg becomes a caretaker (Bamidele-Sadiq, 2018) since she is guided by Zuckerberg’s vision and ensures stability within the company. To increase the likelihood of successful implementation of the strategic change initiative, it was possible to expand the leadership team by introducing images of a coach and educator. Nevertheless, based on current successes, it is concluded that the company does not need significant managerial changes (Shukaev, 2019).
Apple Analysis
Steve Jobs’ strategy in running Apple company largely coincided with Zuckerberg’s management vision. Responsibility for changes was also equally distributed among several employees occupying one of the six images of managing changes. This model existed already at the time of the company’s founding when Jobs and Wozniak started their journey (Levy, 2022). The company continues to successfully adhere to this strategy now, distributing responsibilities to several people. A functional organization relies on the importance of leaders in areas of expertise so that changes are smooth and not controlled only by the hands of CEO Tim Cook.
Based on this information, it can be concluded that a larger percentage of management change images are covered in the management department. At Apple, responsibility for the organization is headed by the CEO, while operations are divided into several sectors (Tasnim, 2018). The main advantage of such a model for Apple is that it helps to quickly respond to the constantly changing marketing environment. Nevertheless, the weakness of this strategy lies in the fact that when introducing changes, a larger number of individuals are involved, whose teamwork can cast doubt on the success of the transformation.
Conclusion
Thus, the main similarity of the management models of the two organizations lies in the distribution of six roles across several personalities. Organizations also converge in successfully implementing the strategy in the context of the internal characteristics of the companies. Nevertheless, management differs in the number of people involved and the retention of one role for one or more people. The successful promotion in the market and their strong leading positions can confirm that both schemes can be implemented with significant positive consequences.
