Introduction
It is common for men over 50 years to feel restless, anxious, and guilty about the choices they have made in their lives. Midlife crises are often experienced by people who have achieved success in their careers but do not feel like they have accomplished anything emotionally or spiritually (Schmidt, 2020). Many people experiencing this tend to turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with this dissatisfaction.
What is Going on with Henok?
Henok has been feeling dissatisfied for some time, but he was too busy working to notice it until recently. He should take a few days off from work and spend time with his family, maybe even go on a vacation together as a family unit instead of as individuals. This will give him time to reflect on his life and figure out what he wants to do with the second half.
What Can Henok Do to Overcome these Feelings?
We can all agree that it is essential for people to have a sense of purpose in their lives. It is also clear that Henok is experiencing anxiety and restlessness due to this lack of purpose. The best thing for him to do is to talk about it with his wife and family; it would be helpful for him to begin by telling them what is going on in his life right now. He can start by telling them about the skydiving trip and how much he enjoyed it. He could then discuss how much fun it would be if he bought a motorcycle. This will help them understand how crucial having a purpose in life is and how important it is to find their paths through life without feeling like they are missing out on anything.
In addition, it would be helpful for him to find some hobbies or interests he can get into. This can help give him a sense of purpose and make him feel like he is doing something with his life. It does not matter what these hobbies are, as long as they are something he enjoys and makes him feel good. Some volunteer their time to help others, which can also be a great way to give back to the community (Santrock, 2018). There are many ways to volunteer, so he should look into this if he thinks it might be something he would be interested in.
Recommendation for Henok
Henok is experiencing many changes in his life; he is 55 years old and starting to feel like he has accomplished everything he wanted. He is married with twin boys but is restless and anxious. He has also been having trouble sleeping. These facts strongly indicate that Henok should seek counseling from someone who can provide emotional support and medical advice. I recommend that he see a therapist who deals with people like him who have been affected by trauma or other life stressors.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Henok’s chest pains manifest his anxiety about his life and how he wants it to be. He feels like he is a failure, so it makes sense that he would be anxious. He also recently had his black hair bleached blonde, which is not only drastic but also wholly unnecessary; these manifest as anxiety symptoms (Cox & Olatunji, 2020). These conclusions were reached by considering the information provided about Henok’s situation. He was feeling his age, his recent change in hair color, the fact that he was a refugee from Ethiopia, and his chest pains. All of these factors led me to believe that Henok’s chest pains were most likely caused by anxiety.
