The task of minimizing workplace violence is one of the main challenges of present-day companies regardless of the field. However, it can be efficiently addressed through the adoption of specialized instruments. One of them is the Brøset Violence Checklist (BVC), and its introduction allows preventing adverse outcomes of this nature within 24 hours (“BVC Brøset Violence Checklist,” 2018). This tool helps ensure the safety of the personnel alongside their customers in the long run because it allows reducing expenses and taking appropriate actions.
The BVC’s effectiveness as a preventive measure can be explained by its focus on the assessment of the most critical risks of the environment. Moreover, the suggested mechanisms of action imply the correspondence to scientific evidence, which was used for its creation, and its advantages for both safety and saving costs related to the failure to maintain it (“BVC Brøset Violence Checklist,” 2018). Its adoption by various organizations proved that the BVC is suitable for psychiatric settings, and the results of the study showed that these interventions facilitate revealing disruptive behavior in a timely manner (Sarver et al., 2019). In addition, it is the only officially recommended assessment technique for the criminal justice system and its entities, as it is reported to be based on strong evidence (Children’s Mercy, 2019). Therefore, it is applicable to different types of companies because their participation in the examinations provided positive results.
In conclusion, the benefits ensured through the use of the BVC for minimizing workplace violence are evident. They are conditional upon the efficiency of this instrument for different organizations, and the BVC’s orientation on the safety of the affected persons makes initiatives less cost-consuming. Also, the implementation of this scale corresponds to the need for revealing any changes, and its regular use might lead to the creation of a favorable environment.
