The article “Editorial Response: Minority Nursing Shortage” explains why our world faces a major nursing challenge. The country’s health sector continues to have a major nursing shortage (Ferrell, James, & Holland, 2014). Many healthcare organizations are unable to recruit new nurses and caregivers. The authors also explain why the United States will face a major health challenge in the coming years. According to Ferrell et al. (2014), the required number of registered nurses (RNs) will increase in the future. The authors have used different facts to support their arguments. The shortage identified in this article is real. The shortage “will affect the quality of healthcare provided to every citizen” (Sturgeon, 2008, p. 324). This challenge affects the quality of healthcare in many societies across the globe.

I would also support the authors’ argument because they identify the major causes of this healthcare problem. The article explains why there are few medical students in the country (Sturgeon, 2008). The country is also recording a smaller number of physicians and nurses. Many students today do not complete their nursing courses. The article also explains why most of these students decide to choose new careers. The practice has reduced the number of qualified nurses in the country. The authors also explain why a large number of caregivers are quitting their jobs. The above situation explains why our country is facing a major challenge. The practice is also strenuous and demanding. This situation discourages most of these nurses. The current level of “abuse and discrimination discourages many nurses” (Sturgeon, 2008, p. 323).

The government should be ready to address this issue. The current data shows why the required number of nurses will increase by 60 percent in the future. The article is agreeable because it explains why society should address this shortage. The state should use different training programs in order to deal with this problem. The above learning programs will attract more nurses. Every healthcare facility should offer better working conditions, increase remunerations, and purchase new equipment (Ferrell et al., 2014). This practice will also support the needs of our nurses. The state should use the best practices in order to address this challenge.

A number of “challenges are encountered when trying to address this issue” (Sturgeon, 2008, p. 324). Many nursing students are also not motivated. The article is meaningful because it explains why many people in the country require better healthcare. The current nursing practice does not support the needs of these nurses. The economic situation might also affect the quality of medical care availed to every patient. The government fails to provide the needed medical equipment and technology. This situation explains why it might be impossible to deal with this shortage. Failure to address this problem will affect the quality of nursing care. Many patients are unable to get better health services.

The article encourages every citizen to support these caregivers and nurses. The government should implement new programs and nursing practices. Every hospital should design the best working environment for its nurses. Every educational program should support the use of evidence-based practices. The government should use this strategy in order to address this problem. The government should also provide the best strategies in order to support these nurses. Every organization should use the best practices such as reward programs (Sturgeon, 2008, p. 325).
