Comparison of Mission and Vision Statements

Mission Statements

Habitat for Humanity’s mission statements demonstrate the organization’s goal of assisting people in need and who are religious. The AHA’s mission is to promote the health of all individuals (American Heart Association, n.d.). The AHA has a broader statement and works for more people, but it needs to be clarified to understand the organization’s purpose. The mission statement of HCA Healthcare (HCA) is the most general among the three organizations and indicates that HCA is committed to caring for human life (HCA Healthcare, n.d.). Therefore, it is only practical to clearly define the organization’s purpose by examining its activities.

Vision Statements

Habitat for Humanity’s vision statements briefly summarize the organization’s primary goals. Habitat for Humanity aims to support the largest number of people in building or renovating their homes (Habitat for Humanity, n.d.). It is worth noting that the organization’s work is aimed at low-income people, and the mission and vision statements do not imply that Habitat for Humanity has any obligations to third parties.

In addition, AHA’s vision statement is to create a fair society of healthy people, which, like Habitat for Humanity’s, summarizes its goals (American Heart Association, n.d.). Moreover, the AHA’s vision and mission statements indicate the organization’s commitment to helping hospitals serve patients. HCA’s vision statements set the organization apart by declaring respect, integrity, and other overarching principles (HCA Healthcare, n.d.). Accordingly, they form the basis of HCA’s goals but must be effectively reflected. Furthermore, HCA’s mission and vision statements do not communicate what the organization serves and do not allow for commitments to others.

Impact of Mission and Vision on Organizational Planning

Meanwhile, I learned while studying the missions of organizations that the leaders of organizations form a general vision and mission to expand their activities according to the goals. Organizations transmit the general concept of their activities to show their work’s specific focus. All organizations have approximately the same vision and mission statement, which is sufficient for their activities. However, Habitat for Humanity is not an interdisciplinary organization, as they focus on housing assistance in various ways, from providing volunteers for construction to mortgage assistance (Habitat for Humanity, n.d.). Similarly, AHA and HCA focus only on the healthcare sector and assistance to people receiving care in healthcare facilities.

In organizations, missions and visions are connected with hierarchy, as they convey the strategic direction of leadership. Habitat for Humanity’s mission and vision influence the organization’s planning (Habitat for Humanity, n.d.). It is because the mission guides the organization in helping people of faith. Moreover, its vision allows it to work in the construction industry and expand the options for helping them. Thus, the most significant elements are a clear delineation of activities and the range of people who can receive help.

These elements enable clear prioritization of aid and improve logistics in the construction sector to help more faithful people. Instead, the AHA mission and vision will frame the activity’s primary purpose, and the planning will depend on the hospital’s needs (American Heart Association, n.d.). Nevertheless, specific elements of the AHA mission and vision, such as equitable care and health promotion for all human beings, contribute to the planning of activities. The reason for this is that it assists all people who need it, not unlike Habitat for Humanity, which helps religious persons.

Additionally, the mission and vision of an HCA organization have the least impact on the organization and the planning hierarchy. Therefore, they are generally guided and only allowed to define the fundamental ethical principles of the organization’s activities, not particular aspects of strategic planning. In HCA, the elements of mission and vision have little influence on planning the organization’s activities; they only demystify the general principles of people’s work (HCA Healthcare, n.d.). Thus, they need to specify how planning will take place at the strategic level. I gained critical insights into the three organizations’ mission and vision, which provide a general overview and allow for the planning and development of activities within the defined scope.
