Introduction

The main issue for nursing licensure is to ensure the absence of unsafe nurse practitioners. Therefore, certification, licensure, and accreditation maintain the standards in the nursing profession. Requirements for nursing practice change rapidly, therefore nurses should always confirm with the nursing board to get updated before applying for licensure. In the state of New Jersey, LPNs and RNs are usually licensed by the New Jersey Board and the practitioner can obtain a license after approximately 10 weeks.

Critical Implication Recommendation

The state of New Jersey is not recognized as a member of the nurse licensure compact, in the state, a nurse must be licensed after doing an exam or through endorsement. In New Jersey, the type of nursing licenses include; Advanced Practice Nurse License Requirements in New Jersey, Certified Nurse Aide Requirements in New Jersey, Registered Nursing License Requirements in New Jersey, and Practical Nursing License Requirements in New Jersey (Brown et al., 2022). Some of the requirements for an LPN nurse practicing in New Jersey include enrolling in an LPN program in New Jersey. The individual who is to enroll in the program as an LPN must ensure that the program is approved. Towards the end of the LPN program, the individuals should ensure to take a step towards licensure. Prior to the licensure program, the individual is recommended to have a 2 by 2 passport size photo. The individuals should be well conversant with the state nursing laws and regulations. During the application for licensure, at a fee, an individual is allowed to make the application online. Criminal background checks will be done, for instance through the use of Morpho Trak electronic fingerprinting services (Chappell et al., 2021). For administration of the licensing exam, a fee will be paid to the NCLEX-PN licensing exam. As a computer-adapted exam, scheduling of the exam is usually done at Pearson VUE sites. For a nurse who does not practice LPNs within the state of New Jersey, an endorsement will be conducted, where fingerprints will be made to obtain fingerprint information after scanning the prints into an electronic Morpho Trak system (Maxwell, 2022). The process will then be followed by an endorsement exam.

In New Jersey for a nurse practitioner to become a registered nurse (RN), the individual has to undergo certification by examination. In this category, there is a difference between applicants who graduated within the United State and those who have undergone foreign nursing programs. Application for the examination can be done at the online website. An RN candidate application is applied by an individual who on the current basis, holds a license from another state within the US or has never been licensed. When the primary state of residence of a nurse is New Jersey, and the individual meets uniform licensure requirements, the issuance of a Multistate compact license is affected (Jacob, 2018). However, a single state license may be issued when a registered nurse does not meet the right requirement. Those nurse practitioners who do not claim the state of New Jersey as their primary state of residence (PSOR) are recommended to obtain a license by endorsement.

International RNs always consider two major processes prior to practicing the nursing profession in New Jersey. These two major steps include; carrying out criminal background checks and considering for an NCLEX (Maxwell, 2022). The course work that is to be taken by the RNs must be evaluated by Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS). In addition, other tests like English proficiency should be conducted and the scores sent to the CGFNS. Apart from completing criminal and education verifications, the practitioner is required to ensure that the applicant does not have any unfavorable medical condition that can hinder the quality of healthcare delivered.

Moreover, the licenses should be under constant renewal to be active. Nursing license requirements include licensed practical nurses, registered nurse licenses, and advanced practice nurses (L’Ecuyer et al., 2018). The New Jersey Nursing Board recommends that the renewal of the existing license to be done every two years after the practitioners have completed 30 contact hours for RN, LPN, and APRN license renewal.

Conclusion

In conclusion, licensing and certification of nurses are significant in various states within the US. Licensing of nurses ensures that the patients can receive proper and quality healthcare services from certified nurses. Certification ensures that the proper academic, health, and legal requirements are met by the individuals who are making the application for the licensing. Licensing entails several steps and an appropriate nursing board monitoring the entire process. Each nurse practitioner should know that in every state there is an incurred fee that is needed for various stages of application for instance for examination. In New Jersey, the LPNs and RNs are required to undergo the examination and the endorsement process to be certified as practitioners of New Jersey. Out of New Jersey LPNs and RNs, have to undergo the process of endorsement to work in the state. In addition to that, the practitioners should always ensure they keep their licenses active after two years.
