Adequate and timely nursing interventions are essential for the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of patients. Most often, the role of a nurse involves the daily implementation of family, behavioral, physiological basic and complex, community, safety, and health system nursing interventions (“Nursing interventions,” 2021). These interventions usually consist of the treatment plan and may include practices like bedside care and assistance, administration of medication, postpartum support, feeding assistance, and monitoring of vitals and recovery progress.
During this week, I encountered some challenges with performing the nursing interventions in the adult daycare center where I work. I have a patient trying to give up smoking, and I have to persuade him to be persistent continuously. However, when he feels tired or emotionally distressed, he opts for cigarettes, which is not very good for his health. Therefore, I encounter some difficulties with implementing this behavioral nursing intervention. Luckily, the patient is a reasonable person and does not like to argue much, so he makes constant progress, which, in complex with the proper diet, improves his health outcomes.
I also encountered some difficulties associated with introducing a dropper to a patient after surgery. It took me a while to focus and accurately insert the needle without hurting the patient. Since childhood, I have been afraid of injections, so working with needles is an emotional challenge for me, although I do not show my feelings. After studying the instructions several times and receiving practical advice from other nurses, I dealt with this obstacle. The patient did not notice any painful sensations and said that everything went well. I also had to train a patient recovering from surgery to walk properly to avoid the risk of falls. After a little briefing, he began to avoid potentially dangerous situations for him and memorized all the rules, so I am calm for his safety.
