Introduction

Sometimes the human body cannot cope with all the functions to ensure optimal functioning, because of which serious diseases arise. Severe pathologies chain patients to the bed. Patients need constant medical examination, competent therapy, and general care. It is essential to understand that relatives who have decided to take care of a sick person do not have the appropriate knowledge of medicine. Nurses have such knowledge, skills, and practical experience. Although there is another medical staff who can provide patient care, the knowledge and skills of nurses are necessary for the successful recovery of patients.

Nursing Knowledge and Skills

There are various clinical situations where nurses show themselves to be true professionals. In my practice, such a case was during the care of an elderly patient with Alzheimer’s disease. This disease has already developed and was actively manifested. The clinical problem, in this case, was that the patient forgot me after a short period, and after a few hours, could remember me again. Undoubtedly, this greatly complicated the course since it took a lot of time to convince the patient that I wanted to help and support him.

The situation with this patient taught me empathy because I saw how hard it was for him and his family. In addition, I have become more patient because patients are people who suffer from certain diseases, and elderly patients who are accustomed to certain home conditions, close to their relatives, and are in an exciting situation at all. I have learned to find an approach to different patients and win them over.

Conclusion

In conclusion, working with different patients, I have acquired a large amount of varying knowledge, skills, and experience to conclude that I am growing as a professional. I have received essential professional qualities that I will improve and develop. This can be achieved by constantly working with patients of different ages, nationalities, ethnicities, etc. Working with patients will help me develop other professional skills and qualities that will make me better.
