Modern technologies have considerably advanced the economies of world countries and significantly facilitated the life of people, yet despite such progress, millions of individuals continue to face the problem of hunger. Access to food is a basic human right which is, nevertheless, not granted to those who live in the poorest parts of the planet. The fact that the issue of food scarcity still exists in the 21st century, when the developed countries have the resources and expertise to solve it, is a major point of concern for me.
Essentially, the leading countries such as the United States and global organizations, including the United Nations, fail to address world hunger and thus let millions of people starve. The issue of huger, like any other persistent challenge, is a complex one and requires a comprehensive approach, yet the current efforts to counter it are insufficient and no longer relevant. Every year, people who live in different parts of the world die from hunger due to the lack of access to the most basic resources such as food and water. The majority of populations of the affluent countries do not recognize the scale of the problem, which prevents them from demanding their governments implement more effective policies to solve the issue. The lack of awareness of the average citizens of developed nations, to a considerable extent, hinders the possibility of a comprehensive policy to address the world hunger being developed. Meanwhile, despite the fact that there are actual initiatives targeted at making food more available to the most vulnerable populations of the poorest countries, they cannot serve as an ultimate solution. Moreover, global food prices are subject to continuous changes, which also negatively impacts the ability of charities and volunteer organizations to supply all people facing the prospect of hunger with food and water. For instance, nowadays, the fuel prices in the world have seen a large spike, and such a trend is expected to severely undermine the access to food for millions of people. Such a situation will lead to a higher number of deaths suffered by people who do not have any food. African countries are those which are affected the worst by world hunger and need the most assistance. Yet, the most concerning aspect of the problem in question is the fact that the technology and resources to solve the issue are actually available. Basically, there are innovative approaches to farming and agriculture in general which can facilitate food production and provide a sufficient supply of it to satisfy the needs of the people who currently face hunger. Yet, the absence of the political will on the part of the countries which are global leaders, such as the United States, leaves the problem without an effective solution. As a result, world countries encounter a situation where they have the capacity to prevent millions of people from dying, but they refuse to do it.
The problem of world hunger is one of the most disconcerting ones because the resources and technology to solve it are available but not used. The existing initiatives and programs to address the issue of hunger in poor countries are not sufficient and do not provide the desired effect. At the same time, the most developed and affluent countries, such as the United States, fail to undertake actions to take comprehensive measures to solve the problem.
