Nursing is a field that I have fully devoted myself to, both professionally and mentally. I think that supporting individuals on their journey to healthy, fulfilling lives is an important task, one that requires dedication, knowledge, and passion to complete. I have devised my philosophy of nursing, something that helps me reach further professional heights and improve as a caregiver. The central tenant of my nursing philosophy is the focus on patient advocacy and empowerment.

Oftentimes, individuals within the medical system feel lost and unimportant. Be it the high medical costs of healthcare, the strain of disease, or a lack of understanding of the procedures they are put through, many potential issues discourage patients. As a nurse, it is my professional responsibility to change and give patients the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to direct their healthcare journey. This includes providing explanations and necessary context about all medical proceedings and the creation of a doctor-patient communication pathway. I want to give individuals the opportunity to educate themselves and take a more proactive role in their healthcare process.

Another important facet of my nursing philosophy is the use of research. Nowadays, one of the most powerful tools a nurse has is knowledge. Evidence-based practice has increasingly become a valuable tool for protecting public health. With the wide accessibility of informational resources, nurses can share, discuss, and present their innovations in the field of healthcare (Chien, 2019). I find the use of research and constant engagement with nursing journals to be vital in my professional journey. Staying on top of the newest clinical practices allows me to change how I approach patient care and deliver better value to individuals.
