The strength of the quality improvement in relation to patient falls within the selected healthcare facility includes capabilities of the current policy for limiting adverse effects of falling and internal resources such as staff and equipment that can address the particular issue. The weaknesses include gaps in the company operations when dealing with patient falls, strengths of competitors who can provide better care or prevention of falls, and limitations of resources. Opportunities refer to underserved areas within healthcare settings which contribute to health issues and the need for particular services. Threats include the appearance of competitors, changes in the environment that contribute to adverse effects of falls, and loss of current patients and clients. The action plan would reflect the company’s strengths and motions to outline current issues that can be improved or met with adequate resources. As such, an action plan based on the SWOT analysis would prioritize the current policies and practices that limit falls and the adverse health effects. Following this, the action plan must establish gaps within the facility that require further intervention in order to prevent and manage falls among patients. Other vital components of the process, especially within the context of healthcare include the root cause analysis and stakeholder roles.
Root cause analysis refers to a method and structure that is utilized in analyzing severely adverse events and features within a healthcare setting. As an example, it can usually include the identification of underlying issues within medical processes in order to decrease the change of error within clinical practices. The benefits of SWOT analysis include a better understanding of business operations, deterioration of threats, identification of opportunities, and being able to address weaknesses (Gürel & Tat, 2017). The limitations of SWOT include non-prioritization of issues, no alternatives or solutions, does not help in the selection of ideas and does not define useful and non-useful information. Similarly, the SWOT analysis may be insufficient in observing the presence of essential stakeholders.
Stakeholders essentially present the requirements of any project. As such, project initiation and planning must involve the needs of the stakeholders throughout the lifespan of the project. The initiation stage addresses the initial needs of the stakeholders while the planning stage analyzes them and constructs operations with improvement as the final goal of the project.
