Introduction
The paper delves into the peculiarities of Emilia Sanchezs case and her rehabilitation. The patient is Hispanic. Emilia has five siblings, and she had to assist her mother in caring for them. During her childhood, she was considered a respectful child. However, at the age of 14, she started to use drugs. Emilia already had two pregnancies. She also raises a son Joey. Because of an abortion, she is disregarded by her family. Emilia has tried to recover from substance abuse; however, she failed.
For this reason, the study suggests the implementation of the EBP approach in the case to provide the treatment that will be able to satisfy Emilias demands. Regarding the nature of the research, the problem-solving process also presupposes several EBP questions that should be answered to collect essential information and offer recommendations to Emilia.
Search Terms and Sites
Nevertheless, a specific search procedure should be applied to the case to meet Emilias requirements and assist her in recovery.
Thus, three main terms are recommended when looking for pieces of evidence in databases. The first one is drug addiction. Emilias primary problem is the use of addictive substances. For this reason, the relevant information about the issue should be collected. Using this term in selected sites, we will be able to understand the root of the problem, the leading causes of its occurrence, consequences of continued drug use, and the impact it might have on the state of the health of the person. Furthermore, the term drug addiction is prevalent in the majority of investigations that delve into this field. That is why its use as a keyword could simplify the research and help to create the theoretical framework for the elaboration of the efficient solution and discussion of Emilias case.
The second term is drug rehabilitation. Regarding Emilias problem, her primary need at the moment is the elimination of dependency on psychoactive substances and complete recovery (Gray, Joy, Plath, & Webb, 2012). For this reason, programs aimed at medical or psychotherapeutic treatment of addiction, or rehabilitation programs, acquire the top priority (Becker, Spirito, & Vanmali, 2015). The majority of databases like PubMed, MedGen, or SAGE offer numerous results if to use this term.
The majority of the suggested studies are relevant and credible enough to be applied to the case. Furthermore, drug rehabilitation remains one of the most topical problems of modern health care as the level of drug-addicted people continually increases. Regarding these facts, the use of this keyword as the primary search term could help to find the information needed to investigate Emilias case and make a particular conclusion.
The third term used for search is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This psychological intervention is the most widely used evidence-based practice that is implemented to cultivate the development of personal coping strategies for an individual to alter his/her mentality and attitude toward drugs (Rice, 2013). Under these conditions, it becomes central to Emilias case as her beliefs and opinions should be changed to ensure successful rehabilitation.
Modern science suggests numerous perspectives on CBT to adapt it to a particular case (Rice, 2013). Databases will also contain information about the way it could be explored in diverse conditions. Using this search term, we will also be able to elaborate the most efficient solution to the problem and assist Emilia in her rehabilitation, recovery, and socialization. The relevance of acquired data will contribute to the overall credibility of the findings.
The three mentioned above terms should be used to look for the information in specific databases that contain only credible information. That is why two sites should be recommended for the comprehensive investigation of the case. The first one is PubMed. It possesses numerous articles that touch upon different medical issues. The credibility of this source is undeniable. Moreover, it provides access to multiple libraries that could be used by investigators to study a particular subject and provide feasible results. Peer-reviewed articles that could be found there should be applied to Emilias case to enhance the overall comprehension of the problem and create a practical solution.
The second site is NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information). The given database is a unique collection of diverse libraries that encompasses research works in different spheres. The academic value of the source could hardly be overestimated as there are hundreds of articles devoted to various health issues. For this reason, the case will benefit from the use of this site. Emilias case presupposes both health and ethical issues. It means that a wide range of sources should be used to perform a comprehensive investigation of the question. SAGE databases could also be explored.
If to use the term drug addiction, 263407 results could be found in PubMed. The majority of them seem relevant and could be applied to the case to find the needed information. SAGE database provides 7361 articles related to the term drug rehabilitation program. Finally, 77536 works are available if to type the term CBT in the search field. The high number of results demonstrates the appropriate choice of the keywords. Furthermore, the sites should also be considered useful.
EBP Questions
To conduct the study and provide detailed information, it is crucial to formulate correct EBP questions that will help to reveal valuable information. Thus, there is the first one:
- Will socialization aimed at the achievement of working skills and drug treatment program demonstrate better results and help Emilia to reunite with family than forced cheap medical treatment?
The given PICO question contributes to the improved compression of Emilias socialization and determines the advantages and disadvantages of forced and voluntary treatment. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of Emilias reunion with her family which remains one of the primary goals of the planned intervention.
The second EBP question could be considered another critical step in the investigation of the main peculiarities of the problem:
- In Emilias case, what is the best drug treatment program to help her become sober and maintain her sobriety?
This research issue provides numerous opportunities for the comprehensive investigation of the most important factors that might impact Emilia and her behavior. The fact is that the patient is interested in the improvement of her state and recovery. However, the majority of programs remain too expensive, and Emilia is not able to engage in them. For this reason, the analysis of existing rehabilitation programs to find the most appropriate one becomes the central task for a researcher who wants to suggest the best possible solution (Rubin & Bellamy, 2012).
The third EBP question sounds like:
- Is cognitive-behavioral therapy appropriate for Hispanic females addicted to crack cocaine for fourteen years of age?
CBT remains one of the most efficient approaches to the treatment of drug addiction and assisting patients in their attempts to stop using drugs (Barlow, Smailagic, Huband, Roloff, & Bennet, 2012). For this reason, the investigation of the peculiarities of CBT use among teens and its outcomes becomes fundamental for the paper. It promotes a better understanding of Hispanic patients characteristics, their responses to CBT, the consequences of its application, and other outcomes. Furthermore, it will help to choose the most appropriate and efficient treatment method which will help Emilia to recover from addiction and preserve sobriety.
Findings
Using the EBP questions mentioned above, we were able to find the following information. First, CBT remains a preferable treatment to help Emilia alter her attitude to drugs and rehabilitate. Radical alterations of her mentality and perspectives achieved due to the implementation of CBT will have a positive impact on her relations with her family. Therefore, regarding Emilias case, the best drug treatment program should possess the following qualities.
First, it should be voluntary for Emilia to decide to rehabilitate on her own. Second, it should be cheap or even free as the patient cannot afford too expensive treatment. For this reason, it is essential to help her socialize and acquire the working skills needed to improve Emilias financial state (Marsiglia & Booth, 2014). She should be ready to earn money and support her son as it is the right stimulus for further development. In this regard, we conclude that the suggested case could be solved using such databases as PubMed, NCBI, and SAGE. Emilia should be provided with an opportunity to engage in a cheap rehabilitation program which is supported by CBT. Only under these conditions, she will be able to recover and reunite with her family.
