Introduction

Does what we think about ourselves really reflect what we are? This is an important question based on the results of my assessment which disputed what have always understood myself to be. Participating in assessments can reveal crucial information about ourselves, which will help us plan for sessions that will help build ourselves. High extrinsic and intrinsic sources of motivation and the average score in all other traits are true results but I dispute the avoiding tact outcome, with the extrinsic motivation being the main impediment to my success.

Personal Strength, Weaknesses, and Surprising Assessment Outcome

Personal Strengths and their role in Managing/Working with others

One of the most impressive assessment outcomes is high intrinsic motivation. Mehrotra (2020) notes that intrinsically motivated people are more creative, making this the most desirable trait from the assessment. In any workplace, it is most likely that both extrinsically and intrinsically motivated individuals are present. Going by Mehrotra’s argument, extrinsically motivated individuals are less creative. Therefore, intrinsically motivated individuals who are also creative will help solve problems that may not be solved by others. This will create a harmonious working relationship because individuals become interdependent. Although monetary rewards can increase the performance of manual tasks, such motivation may not help solve complex problems (Mehrotra, 2020). Intrinsic motivation, which promotes creativity, can help solve such complex problems thus enhancing collaboration with others. My ability to work collaboratively with others is evident in one of my responses where I chose the need for an organization to work as a big family. Since collaboration is enhanced by intrinsic motivation, there is a need for an intrinsically motivated workforce.

The ability to work collaboratively can be enhanced by a trust. If others realize one can be easily compromised, trust is lost and collaboration is discouraged. The assessment results indicated moderate compromising tact, which does not perfectly reflect my trait in this dimension. Throughout my schooling, I have always stood for justice without being compromised. This trait, although may cause conflict with those in question, is important in enhancing trust from others. Trust is a core value in creating a good working relationship with others and can help one manage others because they develop no doubts.

Trust will work well if one also readily accepts personal responsibility. If one takes credit for success but blames others for failures, this can create conflict. Although the results indicated moderate avoiding tact, I take responsibility for successes and failures. This is evident in the choices for questions 1 to 4 on taking responsibility. Blaming others for one’s mistake can create conflict and therefore since I’m able to take responsibility for success and failure, I will be able to work well with others.

Personal Weaknesses and how they can impede Success

The assessment revealed my weak areas which need improvement to increase the chances of my success. It indicated high extrinsic motivation which can impede creativity, as suggested by Mehrotra (2020). Low or lack of creativity will result in dependency on others where problem-solving skills are needed. Such dependency can lead to disharmony and bad working relations. Individuals can be extrinsically and intrinsically motivated at the same time because these traits can both be acquired. Acquisitions of the two traits, together with moderate scores on important traits such as accommodating, dominating, and integrating tact are the main impediments to success. The inability to accommodate others or their views or the desire to dominate them can create discontent and a bad working relationship. It will also be quite difficult to manage discontented individuals and this can derail success. Organizational success is also determined by the ability to integrate various elements to work for the common good. This tact received a moderate score and can equally derail success because a leader must integrate various elements to work toward the success of the organization. For instance, failing to integrate workable opinions from others can lead to failure.

Most Surprising outcome and what I learned about myself

I was surprised to receive moderate scores in most of the tact, contrary to my expectations. For example, I expected a high score on accommodating, integrating, and intrinsic motivation. However, only intrinsic motivation received the expected score while others were rated moderate. I was also surprised to realize that am both extrinsically and intrinsically motivated yet all along have known myself to be intrinsically motivated. I now understand that am equally extrinsically motivated and need to improve on most of the traits.

How Assessment Information will be utilized going forward

The assessment has revealed most of my traits are moderate, with only extrinsic and intrinsic motivations being highly rated. Having understood my strengths and weaknesses, I intend to improve on them. This will be done by seeking information from literature on the internet, books, and advice from friends and teachers. I will also participate in similar assessments after the readings and pieces of advice to measure my achievements. I expect that the assessment will reveal an improvement in most of the areas.

Conclusion

Most of the personal traits are moderate with extrinsic and intrinsic motivation receiving the highest ratings. Although I feel some of the scores received did not precisely reflect me, the information was largely true and useful. The scores imply I do not possess good leadership qualities; there is a need to improve the scores in most of the areas assessed to improve my leadership qualities. This will be achieved through reading widely and seeking advice.
