Inspiration Behind the Passion for Physical Therapy
Every profession in the healthcare system is important for the well-being of society, but the path that captivates me the most is physical therapy. When I was a child, my mother battled a rare disease known as Pigmented Villi Nodular Synovitis on her left knee. She had repetitive surgery almost every two years and experienced both physical and emotional pain due to not being capable of walking without crutches or doing what she loved, such as gardening.
Nonetheless, with the aid of a physical therapist’s guidance, my mother changed from being unable to use her left leg to walking by herself with a smile on her face. I was five years old, and witnessing how my mother regained control over her movements fascinated me. I am interested in physical therapy because I am impressed by how it can transform one’s life, and I wish to pursue an advanced degree at TWU to gain the competencies necessary to make a difference.
Motivation and Professional Goals
For me, a healthcare career is more than simply an occupation with financial outcomes. When I think about physical therapy, I remember my mother’s experience and feel amazed by how help from medical specialists can impact others. Consequently, I am motivated to continue my education to learn how to better assist those under my care. I aspire to be a physical therapist who enhances people’s health while also contributing to their mental well-being. It brings me happiness to see progress in others’ treatment, and I strive to build trustworthy relationships with my patients so they can be reassured and empowered to achieve their goals. My primary motivation for advancing my knowledge is my enthusiasm for becoming a healthcare professional who can help my patients promote their physical and emotional well-being.
I understand that not everyone wishes to improve their health. I was an intern in multiple settings, where I had the opportunity to interact with a variety of patients. For example, I remember how, during my internship, a physical therapist was treating a lady who had recently lost her son. The woman was unhappy and showed hostility towards her doctor. She would constantly throw her slippers and kick her healthcare provider in the leg. Despite the lady’s behavior, the physical therapist always maintained a smile on his face, tried to console the woman, and focused on developing a treatment plan to ensure positive outcomes for her.
The internship drew me even more toward healthcare, and witnessing how much the physical therapist cared for those in need inspired me further about my path. I now pay additional attention to ensuring that patients I interact with feel safe and comfortable in our relations. For instance, if someone is reluctant to receive care, I try to understand the reasons and find ways to reassure them. I wish to advance my knowledge and skills to better support those in my care.
Experience and Commitment to Growth
I can contribute to the profession of physical therapy because I am genuinely interested in the field, I have a desire to help others, and I am committed to putting in the effort to continually improve myself. I am a resilient, self-motivated, and outgoing individual who enjoys being around others. I have learned to overcome challenges, such as balancing my studies and personal life, which taught me to be self-disciplined and goal-oriented.
Additionally, I recognize the value of collaboration and appreciate being part of a team. Yet, one can always advance, and I now need guidance to develop further. I chose TWU because of its supportive professors and staff members, who will direct me towards becoming a great physical therapist. I am ready to follow TWU’s rigorous curriculum and wish to learn more techniques and approaches to providing proper patient care. Pursuing a career in physical therapy will enable me to effectively apply my skills and competencies, making a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
