The movie “Do or Die Affair” was written by Adam Williams. In his writing, William expounded on the diverse character of politicians as depicted in the movie. He begins by portraying the selfish act of the president, then expounds on the self-interest of other politicians running for the presidential post. Although the vice president and the governor belong to the same party, they both had the same interest of juggling for the same top political position; none proved to be ready to step down for the sake of another candidate. In running for the presidential post, the vice president relied on the support offered by the president; whereas the governor relied on the support he was assured by the majority of the council of elders and his mother.
Most politicians have defiant characteristics; this is portrayed by the governor who swore never to step down at all conditions or threats passed to him by the president. His courageous stand in running for the presidency proved him a revolutionary leader. However, he also showed his weakness and fear by promising to expose the illegal conduct of the vice president. In exposing the illegal activities of the vice president, the governor exposed the character of the majority of politicians as traitors. In addition, the governor exposed himself as a traitor by neglecting the advice from his own wife to the advantage of his mother. Leaders do also prove to be poor in decision-making, for instance, in the movie, the governor allowed his mother to make political decisions on his behalf.
Political violence and murder are expressed widely in the movie “Do or Die Affair”. The vice president portrayed this by using a witch doctor to kill the governor. In addition, the vice president was responsible for the death of the prominent chief; he decided to kill the chief in order to reduce the governor’s support politically. The vice president also advocated for killing the journalist lady claiming that she was a spy.
Most leaders are opportunistic; for instance, both the vice president and the governor relied on spies in expounding their recognition to the public. For example, the vice president paid a lot of money to the journalist in order to access materials from the governor’s office. On the other hand, the governor used the same journalist in spreading negative information about the vice president.
Overdependence on whispering campaigns is expressed in ‘Do or Die Affair”, for instance, both the vice president and the governor relied on few individuals in their constituency in passing their information to the public. In addition, they both greatly neglected news anchors whenever they visited them.
The majority of politicians are self-centered. In “Do or Die Affair” both the vice president and the governor prioritized their interests first. As evidenced, the governor disregarded his wife’s opinion and emphasized pursuing his political ambitions. He also opposed his fellow governor’s opinion of vying for the same post of president, he claimed that he was the only one that was fit for that presidential post. In addition, the governor hatched a plan of snatching presidential candidate tickets as a way of escaping the delegates’ decision concerning the right candidacy for the presidential post. On the other hand, the vice president opposed the decision from his party members concerning their choice of a potential aspirant for the post of president. According to the vice president, nothing could stop him from vying for the president’s post.
