The ability to deliver engaging presentations in the formal setting may be challenging for it requires thorough research, preparation, and confidence of the speaker. This assignment examines one personal strength and weakness in professional presentations, along with the methods, and reasoning for improving the later mentioned skills.
The one personal strength regarding professional presentations that could be distinguished is the usage of relevant compelling visuals in the slides. Appropriate illustrations do not only help to explain the concept more clearly but also enrich the depth of the audience’s understanding. One of the methods to improve the utilization of visuals would be selecting the graphics in accordance with the tone, attitude, and target audience to which the message is intended (Wellstead, Whitehurst, Gundogan, & Agha, 2017). In the nursing profession, the usage of pictures is specifically crucial, since choosing the wrong image may compromise the integrity of the speaker and mislead listeners in the formal setting.
The one personal weakness that needs more improvement is the maintenance of eye contact during the delivery. The ability to establish and preserve eye contact does not only give the speaker an opportunity to interact more with the audience but also increases the presenter’s credibility in the eyes of listeners (Wellstead et al., 2017). One of the methods to improve the aforementioned skill would be practicing the speech in front of a mirror or a friend, trying to look straight ahead without getting shy. Clear and engaging delivery is frequently associated with confidence and knowledge. Therefore, an ability to maintain eye contact with a group of professionals in front of the speaker is vital to convince them in the strength of an argument.
