Technology-based tools are being used more and more in patient care. Since medical institutions have made significant investments in various platforms, they want to make the most of how effective each system is in gathering data. Any contemporary healthcare institution must implement project management techniques to enhance system operations, handle current technology, and customize data collecting to meet its objectives (Aubry & Lavoie-Tremblay, 2018). Project management is becoming more and more essential in the healthcare industry. Project management may provide structure and discipline in a sector that is evolving and expanding at an astounding rate. Field personnel will be able to do more in less time, conserve resources, and foster teamwork by using a tried-and-true project management technique.

The necessity for project management is becoming increasingly clear as healthcare in the United States develops in response to mounting challenges on costs and quality. In all healthcare settings, understanding and using the fundamentals of project management may significantly enhance outcomes (Gordon & Pollack, 2018). Projects must be outlined and authorized from the outset. Background data, market research, and other pertinent data should be reviewed at this time. Making a detailed strategy for how the project will be executed is the next stage once it has been authorized (Shirley, 2020). For example, a calendar outlining all project-related activities and a description of how progress and outcomes will be monitored should all be included in the project plan (Shirley, 2020). Moreover, before putting the project plan into action, tracking progress and keeping an eye on any modifications to the plan is essential.

Nurses frequently use project management principles, including incorporating technology into nursing procedures and protecting the integrity of obtained data. For instance, while integrating patient care technologies like electronic health records, a number of project management techniques must be used. Data gathering and analysis must be done prior to the implementation of an electronic health record. Ensuring correct data collection, storage, and retrieval is one of the key duties of contemporary nurses (Aubry & Lavoie-Tremblay, 2018). Nurses may make sure that new and existing data-gathering methods accomplish these aims and that technology is required by employing this project management strategy. An electronic health database should also have its system procedures and workflows assessed. Nurses should utilize project management concepts to develop metrics to assess the effectiveness of the system installation while introducing a new workflow (Aubry & Lavoie-Tremblay, 2018). These indicators can confirm end-user pleasure, confirm that other people are familiar with new technology, or spot flaws in a system.

Evidence-based practice necessitates dedication to ongoing research and development. Health information system data should be condensed in a way that facilitates comprehension and aids in decision-making, which will make the switch to electronic records seamless. To examine this data, spot trends, and put new procedures, workflows, or focused nursing interventions into place, nurses should use a systematic approach (Gordon & Pollack, 2018). Another key project management principle that aids in the adoption of new patient-centric technology is timely communication. Computer science offers precise, up-to-date knowledge that is perfect for solving issues as they emerge (Aubry & Lavoie-Tremblay, 2018). Early in the epidemic, this capability developed, allowing a smooth transfer to an electronic database. By expediting systematic responses to a variety of issues, such as terminology development, epidemic tracking and prediction, practitioner personal safety, and the use of artificial intelligence to generate novel diagnoses and treatments, nursing informatics has assisted in defining best practices.

Although I thought informatics competency was high, I later realized that my understanding of computer science concepts and language has to be improved. My knowledge base and vocabulary bank have been expanded as a result of the computer science abilities I learn and validate, which will only make it easier for me to satisfy future computer science requirements. My existing skill level has to be raised, and more information in this field will enable me to better comprehend my current IT manager and the necessity of my own and the clinical departments’ assistance. For instance, a greater comprehension of technical jargon and internal workings will be necessary for the planned deployment of patient-centered technologies like telemedicine.

Because of the way the healthcare industry is changing and the numerous technological developments we are witnessing, nurses need to have a deeper understanding of computer science. Nursing will be crucial in knowing computer science and being able to provide health care in a technologically sound manner if all of this is to be effective. Successfully utilizing the advantages of information technology is necessary, given how quickly technology is evolving in the healthcare industry (Gordon & Pollack, 2018). The virtual learning environment, the principles taught, and the usage of technology in the online database search engine all assisted me in honing my computer science abilities.

The TANIC self-assessment made me change my impression of my current level of computer science understanding. It helped me understand that while I have some fundamental information, there is always room for growth and learning. Some of the inquiries deal with fundamental computer literacy. Many of which I got better at as the course went on. The weekly tasks’ web resources also enhanced information literacy abilities.
