Applying the Concepts to Personal Life
Not all concepts are suitable for everyday use, especially deep ones, such as the psychological approach. In my personal life, I most often follow the concepts of The Adlerian Approach. According to this approach, a person is a socially motivated being (Corey & Corey, 2020). I use the concept of self-worth to manage stress and not berate myself for failures. Many of my problems are solved by well-established social interaction: by talking with my family and friends.
Existential Approach is also close to me because it gives me the opportunity of free choice. The main definition of this approach lies in the fact that a person is determined by their choice (Corey & Corey, 2020). Although external circumstances are not always under control, this approach helps focus on the direct area of responsibility. The concept of freedom of choice is close to me, because I believe that people cannot determine external events, but they can choose their attitude towards them.
Understanding Myself
For self-reflection, the approaches of Gestalt Therapy and Mindfulness and Acceptance Theory are close to me. Both of these approaches allow me to dive in, resolve old traumas and prevent new ones. The goal of mindful perspective is to increase cognitive flexibility and thereby increase behavioral flexibility and the ability to meaningfully adapt to the current environment (Corey & Corey, 2020). This approach is especially useful for dealing with stress disorders. Gestalt Therapy help me gradually resolve my old inner problems. Gestalt Therapy is about projecting past experience into the present, allowing a person to live it through and let it go. This approach helps me deal with the influence of parents and childhood traumas on my life, realize it and forgive.
