Several professional people struggle with a lack of excellent public speaking skills, despite their expertise in their field. It is, therefore, critical for students to learn techniques for overcoming stage fright to become outstanding public communicators. Speech entails exchanging information and ideas on a topic of relevance to the audience (Eke, 2021). Even though communication is a standard human characteristic, there is a need for skills and strategies in speech preparation and delivery (Eke, 2021). Generally, an excellent public speaker should be self-assured, persuasive, transparent, responsive, enthusiastic, and passionate.
No one enjoys listening to a speaker who appears to be nervous, so confidence is essential for any public speaker. Nothing is more crucial to one’s schooling than the ability to communicate oneself (Eke, 2021). By learning, one can build confidence in convincing everyone else to share their thoughts and opinions (Yulianti & Sulistyawati, 2021). The goal of giving a speech is to make a point. As a result, clarity is required to ensure that the talk is absorbable for the audience.
The presentation should be structured so that it is brief, sweet, and easy to understand for the audience. The presenter must have a basic understanding of the topic they wish to discuss, which can only be accomplished if they are enthusiastic about the subject (Eke, 2021). Furthermore, being excited about your subject of conversation will make the conversation far more successful.
A great public presenter should be able to relate to their listeners and do so. They must be familiar with their audience’s needs, preferences, and history. As a result, being a publicist is essential for effective speech delivery. A publicist (public relations agent) assists the speaker in gaining more knowledge about the public and developing the appropriate speech. It is all about reputation in public relations, for example, what you say and what others say about you (Permatasari et al., 2021). An excellent public speaker, in my opinion, should hire a publicist.
To summarize, an excellent public speaker should be sure of what they are saying, sincere, persuasive, precise, accountable, and eager to communicate. Furthermore, learning about the audience is the first step in preparing an excellent speech. Speaking in front of a group is a valuable asset and a necessary skill everyone should have. Emulation of these qualities can help one become a better public speaker.
