Introduction

Businesses thrive in environments favorable for their operations, and for this atmosphere to be created; effective strategic moves must be laid out with a focus on improving information system technology. Since competitors are always keeping watch on your next move as well as exploring options to counter them, it is essential to have better strategies that would nullify their interests. The highly dynamic economic trend has presented current businesses with technological advancements that are aimed at improving service delivery. Modern technologies have paved the way for improved efficiency as things previously done by hand have been taken over by more advanced machines that are much faster, Furthermore, Information systems and technology has reduced the world into a small global village, where data can be transferred from one end to the other without having to travel that distance. Books can now be published on CDs, with clear guidelines regulating their use. This is a new era of electronic marketing in the business world, with information systems and technology taking over most of the operations. This paper seeks to provide strategic moves for a publishing company intending to start doing so on CDs as well as select business processes and outline impacts of information system technology on it (Carter, 2005, par. 1-7).

Strategic moves for publishing electronic books on CDs

Business strategy is essential for success to be realized. Business is like a war ground, where competitors take advantage of any slip-up. It is therefore imperative that effective strategies are devised to forge the firm forward. There is a new product being introduced into the market, e-books published on CDs. If a competitive advantage is to be achieved, the business must explore all the other potential competitors publishing e-books CDs to determine what strategies to employ. For a start, I would suggest that the company purchase licenses from the existing companies, which have implemented the technology, this way; they will have a better understanding of the mode and process of the new venture. After which, they can develop their own. The new product would best fit if it targets both new and existing customers. This is because there are those current customers, who would want to embrace new technologies, and this would serve to retain them if they had ever thought of leaving the company due to its old system. Besides, there could be potential customers who have been waiting for the launch of this product specifically from this company (Oz, 2007, pp. 1-26).

When introducing a new product, the company must target a larger market share first, before targeting improved unit profitability, this way, the volume of sales will be instrumental in retaining customers as well as opening pathways to improving on the technology. The company should therefore focus on gaining a strategic advantage, also known as SIS (strategic information systems), which would ultimately develop into a competitive advantage for the business. Management should also involve every stakeholder in generating ideas, which would maximize the utilization of information systems technology. With all these in line, the company will be on its way forward. Strategy is therefore very essential in helping the company maximize its strengths (Oz, 2007, pp. 1-26).

Importance of Information systems on a business process

Business processes that would best fit here are like making a graphical interface for those documents that are fast-moving in the firm. This, when done on the company’s software, will progress the rate of managing data, thereby improving efficiency and quality of data, not to mention the amount of time and funds that would be saved. It will be ideal for the centralization of processes, limiting the number of people involved and in turn improving on development. Other processes would include integrating a system technology, which is object-oriented, This will centralize changes made on data, for instance, employees’ job titles, and would mean that a change at the centralized location would take effect throughout the system and in all departments. The changes in business processes would be essential in transforming it in that organization. Since Organizational performance depends mainly on employees and processes, any reengineering done on business processes is vital and can have a striking effect on service delivery. Hence, customer satisfaction, which implies, better efficiency and effectiveness, and thus higher profitability, strong market share as well as a competitive advantage, is the mission of any business (Carter, 2005, par. 1-7).

Conclusion

Every company flexes its muscles to gain a competitive advantage. This enables it to gain and retain customers a well as realize higher profits. Such a level of performance cannot be achieved without outlining business strategies. It is very useful for any business that focuses on improving its quality of production and effectiveness. Cost reduction, targeting of new customers, increasing market share by reducing rates or improving quality, or even by introducing new technology, among others, form some of the strategies a business would employ to improve its efficiency. Furthermore, designing new business processes like object orientation in centralizing technology on documentation is also critical in improving a company’s competitive advantage. It does this by improving its efficiency as well as effectiveness, thereby providing an overall improvement on the performance of the firm and hence higher profitability (Oz, 2007, pp. 1-26).
