The topic of the video is reflective writing and its concept, regarding the analysis of the past and future events. There are three main provocations in this video that brought additional context to what I already knew about the theme. The first aspect is that it is possible to reflect not only on the past but also on the future events (SkillsTeamHullUni, 2014). Although I regularly recall some of the moments from the past and try to learn from them, I never considered the thoughts about the upcoming occasion as reflective. Still the attempts to assume what will happen in the future and suggest certain scenarios is also a way of reflection.
The second insight was that reflecting means not describing the surroundings or situations but documenting the personal thoughts and feelings about them. This is the reason why it may be hard for me sometimes to write a note in the diary or share something with a friend because it makes me focus on the emotions that can be tough to process. Especially, writing it on paper on an electronic device is significantly more effective than only thinking about it, because during the writing it is easier to focus and pay attention to the details. However, the most important point is that reflection writing is useless without the analysis of the past events and the implications of it the reactions (SkillsTeamHullUni, 2014). The main point of the reflection in general and specifically in expressing it through the writing is the personal development and valuable lessons that can be gained from the situations that happened some time ago. Therefore, reflective thinking helps to learn from the mistakes and make wiser decisions in life.
