The event directly involved Ms. Lee, Malcolm, Liam, and Nicholas, two of Malcolm’s friends. Malcolm failed to bring his laptop to class, claiming it was broken, which sparked the incident. As a result, Ms. Lee obtained a loaner laptop for Malcolm from the technical expert.
Later, Nicholas and Liam went to Ms. Lee and reported that Malcolm had sold the school-issued laptop to a stranger, raising questions about the safe return of the loaner laptop. Ms. Lee subsequently challenged Malcolm and vehemently disputed the claim. It is especially noteworthy that Malcolm was missing from class the following day.

During the second session, Ms. Lee realized Malcolm was missing his laptop and asked him about it. Consequently, a private chat might have lessened Malcolm’s anxiety and established a trustworthy rapport, which would have encouraged him to be truthful. Malcolm, though, might have mistakenly believed that Ms. Lee was supporting the accusations. Before facing Malcolm, the situation may have been clarified by examining the claim, thereby minimizing potential anxiety (Panlilio et al., 2018).
If not handled discreetly, this could, however, result in the spread of rumors across the school. A comprehensive inquiry and a fair hearing may have been secured by involving higher authorities. Malcolm might feel singled out or targeted, but it could also worsen the problem.
Personal Reflection: Anticipated Response in a Similar Situation
In a similar circumstance, I would discreetly investigate the charge first to avoid unjustified allegations. I would contact Malcolm privately and avoid conflict if the accusation were substantiated by evidence. I would involve the school administration if the scenario persisted. This strategy, in my opinion, would strike a compromise between maintaining the student’s trust, safeguarding the school’s assets, and acting professionally in the circumstances.
