For businesses to be successful, it is paramount to consider various factors and pay attention to the essential components. For example, employee attraction, retention, and development are especially significant for any company’s increased competitiveness and performance. Precisely workers are the most valuable resource that requires competent investments. Gloria Jean’s, the coffee shop I work at, also uses various retention and development techniques to ensure that our customers’ expectations are met and exceeded.
First of all, our coffee shop uses some techniques to attract and hire the best candidates. As mentioned by Lovelock et al. (2015), it is recommended for employers to have an image of a good place, deliver high-quality products to make people want to be a part of their production, and have a good reputation. I am proud to state that our company follows all of these steps, and the reason I decided to work at Gloria Jean’s coffee shop is that I wanted to belong to such a great and reputable company.
Employee retention is another key factor, and there are several techniques to make sure that the staff remains loyal. For instance, to retain workers, it is essential for companies to be those places that people are proud to work for, which may be related to Gloria Jean’s. What is more, another recommended practice is to develop bonds among employees, but our coffee shop does not implement it. I hope that our management will consider adding some common activities to retain workers. However, what Gloria Jean’s implements is feedback and learning opportunities: employees receive proper training and are not afraid of feedback.
Another factor of businesses’ success is employee empowerment, and I am proud to say that Gloria Jean’s empowers its staff. For example, Lovelock et al. (2015) notice that workers have to be aware of their rights to violate the firm’s rules and policies if a specific situation requires so. As workers, we know some emergency guidelines and are trusted with judging what is best in a particular case. Consequently, knowing that I am empowered makes me honored and increases my satisfaction with this job. Finally, I would say that the remuneration packages are relatively competitive. While employees receive bonuses and have a flexible schedule, it is possible to state that the work environment is very fast-paced. For example, our three baristas are not happy with the fact that, while holidays are very busy, they are not well-paid.
