Men are known to be the heads of families in society. They are also known to represent masculinity in all aspects. Still, they try to live up to what society expects of them, like being constantly busy, having many friends, doing complex jobs at home, being leaders, and protecting society. For instance, it is expected that men are supposed to work in areas that need masculinity, including departments that deal with carrying heavy loads or a lot of movement (Eisend, 2019). Being active goes hand in hand with tackling heavy duties. Men are not supposed to be lazy, as they are the leaders of society.
These expectations can be said to be lesser for men when they are with friends since friendship is less formal compared to home and work roles. Lastly, men are expected to protect society since they are associated with masculinity, which shows strength (Eisend, 2019). It needs to be social and ready to serve every community member to protect society. Expectations for younger men or boys are lower than for older married men. Younger men are still under their parents’ care and hence are not expected to be providers, no matter their race. Men are more likely to be given higher positions and expected to work towards achieving the organization’s goals by ensuring that all other employees look up to them. At home, they are expected to be providers for their families in terms of both primary and other needs.
In conclusion, men are men regardless of race, and the expectations placed on them grow with age. This expectation may harm men psychologically since they are not supposed to show their weaknesses. They may also benefit men from an early age, and they learn to be strong and overcome almost all hardships they come across in life.
