Introduction
In order to protect a child’s best interests when they are born intersex, it is crucial to adopt a sociological viewpoint. Understanding that intersex is a natural variation in human biology rather than a disorder or disease is crucial from a sociological standpoint. This means that any medical interventions should put more emphasis on enhancing the child’s quality of life than on making them conform to gender stereotypes.
Discussion
Allowing the child to mature and discover their gender identity without medical intervention is one strategy. In order to support this, resources and education about intersexuality should be made available to the child and their family, as well as assistance with any difficulties they may encounter (JCCSF, 2017). Instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach, another strategy would be to provide medical interventions that are customized to the unique needs and preferences of the child and their family. Ultimately, regardless of the child’s gender identity or biological sex, the aim should be to make sure they can lead happy lives.
Conclusion
After watching the intersexuality documentary, the issue of whether or not we ought to give intersex individuals their own sex category comes up (Gender Issues in Agriculture AGEX3003, 2013). I believe the response is indeed yes. The current binary system of male and female does not take into account intersexuality or other natural variations in human biology. The establishment of a new sex category would not only acknowledge the diversity and existence of intersex people but also give them legal protection and recognition.
