Fasting Blood Sugar Value for Each Group
Mathematics can be used to determine the means, medians, and modes of the blood sugar values for the two groups. Finding the sum of the values and dividing it by the total number of values yields the mean (Almond, 2023). The Alpha FBS Group and the Beta FBS Group have mean fasting blood sugar levels of 149 and 213, respectively.
The median, a statistical value representing the 50th percentile, is the middle value of all the values presented (Almond, 2023). This indicates that the median is 125 for both the Alpha and Beta FBS Groups. The mode, however, cannot be found in this case, as the mode is the most frequently repeating number in the massive data set (Almond, 2023). The average fasting blood sugar values are not determined since neither group’s findings contain repeating figures. The median blood sugar level for both groups is 125, the mean blood sugar level for the Alpha Group is 149, and the mode for the two groups cannot be determined.
Range of Fasting Blood Sugar Values for the Alpha and Beta Groups
Additionally, the range of the two groups’ fasting blood sugar readings can be determined. The range distinguishes between the missive’s most significant and smallest values (Almond, 2023). Thus, the Alpha FBS Group and Beta FBS Group ranges are 155 and 460, respectively.
However, the range is a subpar indicator of variability due to its insensitivity. This is because alterations to any middle scores do not impact the range, with the range not altering as long as the greatest and lowest scores remain the same (“Variability,” n.d.). Thus, while the range is an inflexible indicator, the range of the values is 155 for the Alpha Group and 460 for the Beta Group.
Standard Deviation
The standard deviation figures, on the other hand, can provide information about how each group’s data varies around the mean. The standard deviation indicates the degree of data dispersion from the mean (“Standard deviation,” n.d.). The higher the standard deviation, the more spread the data is from the mean.
In contrast, high or low standard deviation data points are above or below the mean. (“Standard deviation,” n.d.). The data points are likely close to the mean if the standard deviation is near zero. Hence, with a standard deviation of 64.75 and 193.25 for the Alpha and Beta Groups, respectively, the Alpha Group’s data is more closely grouped around the mean than the results from the Beta Group.
Comparison of Results
However, if the table presents age as another variable, another procedure will be required to make comparisons. Regression analysis is appropriate, as it determines the relationships between dependent and independent variables (Taylor, 2020). It can be used to determine how closely variables relate and their long-term relationships.
While “age” is a dependent variable because it depends on various factors, “blood sugar” is an independent variable. The researcher can predict the fasting blood sugar levels by employing the variable “age” in regression. Regression analysis can therefore be used to compare disparate sets of data.
Normal Distribution
If the data sets followed a normal distribution, a set of values would fall within two standard deviations of the mean. According to the empirical criterion that can be used for a normal distribution (“The normal curve,” n.d.), 95% of the values fall within two standard deviations from either side of the mean. Therefore, 95% of patients’ fasting blood sugar levels would be within two SDs of the mean under a normal distribution.
