The short story ‘Water’ by Lee Hoffman is a third person narrated story, which opens by describing the miseries Evan went through after being wounded on his leg which made him feel extremely dehydrated. From the story, it can be revealed that, there was not even a drop of water in the whole territory as all bore holes had dried up as a result of drought which had caused even the grasses to dry up. It is of importance to note that, Evan and his colleague were shot when they were they trespassed through Redmor’s territory. Despite his painful leg, Evan had to look for some water to sustain his life but only found a snake which he preferred eating raw because of its moisture. The first instance which indicates that this story is a fantasy fiction is the dream Evan had about a woman and a friendly snake that offered itself to be eaten. Additionally, the marvelous cup he was given by the woman stayed full despite the fact that he kept on drinking from it. It is very clear from the story that, Evan also had super powers which he was not aware that guided and protected him as the words of Redmor denote.
According to the writer, in the whole territory Redmor as described in the story was the only one who had water and people were killed if found trying to cross his land. On this basis, people in the whole territory feared and hated him so much because he couldn’t allow other people to enjoy water that was flowing down stream. As indicated in the story, Redmor was considered as a thief by every rancher in the area as he stole something very precious from them. According to the writer, Redmor was the only source of water in the whole area despite the fact that drought was killing people and livestock. From the story it can be revealed that, the country had plenty of water before Redmor dug his dam which made any other spring and borehole to dry up. Another fantasy fiction can be found from the words of the boy who told Evan that there had been no rain from the time Redmor dug his dam.
From the story it is clearly indicated that, Evan was very disappointed with what Redmor treated the people of this area; and decided to take a ravage especially because his friend Hank was shot. In this case, he decided to destroy the Redmaor’s dam and save people from thirsty and drought but was not lucky because Redmor used charms to know whoever was coming near his dam. On this basis, Mr. Redmor’s super powers of knowing the witch secrets and making potions as well as riding the wind; make this story a fantasy fiction. It is evident from the story that, the dreams that Evan had came true when Redmor died and from there he realized that he had someone who was guiding him and was more powerful than Redmor. Further, this story is a fantasy fiction because the moment the woman who was occurring in the Evan’s dreams drunk the water; the dam crumbled by itself until nothing that had made the dam remained in place.

Additionally, this story explains how Evan with the help of supernatural powers liberated people by destroying the dam. Further, this story contains a lot of fictions and fantasies as discussed above that make it fit in the genre of fantasy fiction.
