Intimate partner violence is recognized to be one of the most influential factors why families in the United States break. The origin of the problem lies in the allusive nature of emotional abuse that might lead to a physical one. The majority of people who are exposed to domestic violence or sexual abuse have suffered cruelty from their partners in their teenage years. Therefore, teen dating violence is a core of the serious problems in adulthood and marriages.
The choice of the topic is dictated by the acute relevance of the problem in the modern world and its subtle manifestation. Awareness of the possible ways to recognize and fight dating violence among teenagers might contribute to the overall resolution of the issue and improvement of the lives of thousands of people who are suffering.
The problem of dating abuse in teenagers might exist without victims’ awareness of one. Emotional violence can take different forms and seems too vague to be addressed. However, according to statistics, approximately “one-third of all teens involved in romantic relationships will experience abuse of some kind” (Teen Dating Violence). More importantly, the vast majority of reported abuse cases from teenagers address emotional violence (Teen Dating Violence).
It is a widespread issue and has to be recognized at the earlier stages to ensure the safety of the mental and physical health of a person. Raising awareness of the problem and distributing information about possible ways of resolving it is also vital. As with any other violence, teen dating abuse can be legally reported with an ultimate bringing the abusive partner to justice (Teen Dating Violence). The information about the signs of being a victim of abuse in relationships should be spread in schools to encourage teens to stand for their dignity and self-respect.
In conclusion, the essential point necessary to be addressed within the scope of the discussed problem is that dignity and freedom should be a priority in relationships. This is the idea that has to be acutely addressed in teenage upbringing to eliminate cases of constant suffering from abuse in relationships that would lead to adverse outcomes in adulthood. Early recognition of the problem might protect victims and prevent similar incidents in the future.
