Blue Skies – Frank Sinatra
The singer expresses his change of mood saying he was once down with things going wrong for him. The once gray sky is now blue and filled with singing birds and bright sunshine. Things are going his way. Since he fell in love, the days seem to be in a hurry. Blue days have been replaced by blue skies and all he can do now is smile, just like the skies are smiling at him.
Smile at the Sky – Pierre Single
The persona describes the sky as pretty. He says that whether sad or happy, a smile at the sky sets him free. He encourages the reader to smile at the sky at all times like he does. The persona says that if the reader is happy, it is because the reader is outside and smiling and if he is sad, then he should get outside and smile. The persona reminds the reader that the sky loves him too and smile is all one has to do.
Sky-Minded – Delilah Miller
The poem describes changes appearing on the sky. The sky turns from blue earlier in the day to purple with the signs of an oncoming storm. The sky turns grey and the storm begins, covering any signs of light. The sky keeps changing color and the persona describes it as mean. He finally reveals that it is all happening in his mind.
The Sky is Limitless – Ric S. Bastata
The sky in this poem is said to have no limit in size, color and deception. The speaker imagines that the sky spreads its lies all over the world. He has no idea where it begins or ends and calls it one big circle. Its color deceives as he thought it is blue and orange and yet has proved it is dust. For the persona, he understands little about the sky.
Assemblage of Heavenly Blue – Nikhil Parekh
The sky’s characteristics range from pleasant to destructive. Its appearance is clear and
attractive in its blue and purple color. The sky is also as life-giving as it is life-threatening. It causes seeds to sprout but can cause blood-shed in floods and destruction of property. It spells hope as well as doom.
Silence in the Sky – Aldo Kraas
The sky is silent and quiet like a dead man. It is dark with black clouds. The persona says it feels cold like dead men’s winter and brings with it threat of disease and the possibility of visiting a hospital for treatment. He compares the sky to the hospital where the sky is unwelcomingly silent, dark and cold while the hospital is not a nice place though it is there when needed.
Star Light Friends – Nick Trager
The poem is an expression of wonder and amazement. The speaker would love to fly and run across the night sky like all his friends do. He is lonely when the sun rises and his friends are not there with him, only appearing at night. The speaker wonders why it is not possible for him to join his friends when they float to another sky in the night and why it is only at night that they come out to meet him.
Sky in the Pie – Roger McGough
The persona is complaining about being given what he did not order, describing the universe; a sky in his pie, sunsets, nightingales, clouds, the breeze and the universe. He is however persuaded to taste a little and realizes it is not as bad as he thought. The colors are attractive, the sun is sweet, the clouds are light, the wind is soft and smells of cinnamon and the sky is delicious. The persona wonders why he has not tried it before and he feels he can never have enough. He hopes to try out the night sky as well, beginning with the moon.
There is Another Sky – Emily Dickinson
The poem is addressed to Austin. The persona describes to him another sky that is beautiful and fair and another sunshine though dark. She asks Austin not to mind faded forests and silent fields as there is a little forest with green leaves, a brighter garden and undamaged by frost. There are bees humming among the flowers that never fade. She persuades Austin to come into her garden.
In the White Sky – William Stafford
The poem, in the form of a story, says that there are many things that have already happened in the white sky and are part of our experiences, and yet a lot that has still not happened. What has not happened is made to happen in our thoughts, in writing and acting. We can either encourage these things or stop them from happening, sustaining the new things. The persona once noticed a beginning but did not encourage it and now the moment is past. He thinks about it some days.
