The authorship of the Book of Hebrews has been the subject of intense discussion for many years since it is impossible to truly establish the author of the texts. Although there is no exact opinion about the authorship, there are some suggestions that the book could have been written by Paul, Apollos, Barnabas, Priscilla, or Luke (BibleProject, 2015). However, scientists cannot come to the final version, since there are quite a few theories of refutation and confirmation.
Pavel is one of the most likely candidates who can be called an author. There is plenty of evidence to support it. For example, one of the main aspects can be called the fact that the style of writing the Book of Hebrews is quite similar to the style that Paul used in his works (BibleProject, 2015). However, there are some differences in the same topic, due to which many tend to doubt Paul’s authorship in relation to this book. This refers to the absence of a traditional greeting that can be consistently traced in his other works (Got Question, n. d.). In addition, the book does not indicate the author, which is also atypical for Paul, who, in all his works, identified himself as the author. However, some scholars counter this argument by arguing that Paul was a controversial person and could deliberately deviate from his earlier writing standards. This may serve as a factor that refutes the involvement of this person in writing the Epistle to the Hebrews.
In my opinion, the authorship of the book of Hebrews is controversial, although I tend to subscribe to the theory that it is Paul. The way the book is written powerfully points to the confirmation of his authorship more than other figures. In this regard, Paul’s involvement in this work seems to me the most incredible. In addition, Clement of Rome also claimed that this work was written by Paul, which can be a weighty argument (Got Question, n. d.). Evidence of a historical person and writing style are the most apparent confirmations of the theory.
