I have chosen the Georgia author named Carson McCullers, who became a celebrity by the age of 24. I have selected this author because she worked as a typist, waitress, and taper before gaining literary recognition. It makes her life full of ordinary things that people usually do, which creates a close relationship with the readers. Moreover, music taught her a strict logical composition – the plots of her works are a harmonious whole. The work by the author that I have chosen is a story called The Ballad of the Sad Café. The reason to select mainly that work of the author is the catchy title of the work. Moreover, I have heard many positive reviews and responses about the story, which only increased my interest in the work.
Personally, vague and mixed feelings and impressions remained after reading the story. The story is most likely about love, not entirely familiar, but still love. It is the case when you do not expect much, but a short story suddenly clings. It clings with its ordinariness, lack of bright events, even monotony, and most importantly – extraordinary vitality. It doesn’t answer some questions that don’t seem to be answered, and it just provides a new variation on an old theme. One can only wonder how strangely life sometimes turns, while its turns are surprisingly similar, regardless of where and when this turn occurs. “Love is a joint experience between two persons – but the fact that it is a joint experience does not mean that it is a similar experience to the two people involved” is an accurate description of why the story is so exciting. It shows people that love is unique for every pair of people.
