Introduction

The DNP is a degree program that prepares professionals to practice as nurse practitioners in the United States. The DNP program is rooted in the Benedictine values of humility, community, and service. The DNP program is based on the belief that nurses have a unique ability to provide holistic care that goes beyond simply treating symptoms or providing technical interventions. It is about providing holistic and comprehensive care, which can help people stay healthy and productive throughout life. A DNP program will include courses in advanced clinical practice research, health policy and politics, ethics, and leadership. It will have lessons in nursing administration, business skills development and management, human resource management, and leadership training. This combination of coursework provides students with practical knowledge about how healthcare organizations operate and opportunities to develop their leadership skills through classroom instruction and practice-based learning experiences.

Professional Ethical Challenge Faced in My Clinical Practice

I faced a professional, ethical challenge when I was working as a clinical psychologist. One of my clients brought her 14-year-old son to me because he was having trouble at school. She told me that he had been diagnosed with ADHD but was not being treated with medication at home. I knew this would be a challenging situation for me to address because it is prevalent for parents concerned about their children’s treatment to take them off medication if they feel like they are doing well without it. Therefore, I decided to approach this case as if we were not going to use medication—I wanted to see if we could find other ways of helping him succeed at school without it.

We started by looking at his schoolwork and ensuring he completed all assignments promptly. We also made sure that his teachers knew about his struggles with ADHD, so they could be more flexible about assignments and hold back on grading too quickly. After one month of working together, we saw some positive changes. His grades improved significantly from failing all subjects, which had happened in previous semesters, to passing some subjects and failing others which had not happened before.

My Understanding of What Constitutes Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of copying another person’s work without providing attribution. It includes copying verbatim, paraphrasing, or summarizing content. Fair use is an exemption to copyright law when used for criticism, commentary, news reporting, or educational purposes. Parody and satire are acceptable forms of expression as long as the original author’s reputation and livelihood are not compromised. Plagiarism can be a severe issue for the DNP, especially if a student plagiarizes from sources, not in the same field of study. DNP requires students to study many different areas of nursing and incorporate them into their practice. For example, if a student were to write a paper about the importance of cultural competency in healthcare settings and then plagiarize an entire article on the subject from another source without acknowledging where those concepts came from could be problematic.

Working in a Team

I have been fortunate to work on teams throughout my DNP studies, including the inter-professional groups at the University where I was a member of the DNP program. I have been in this role for over five years. I have developed many skills in inter-professional teams, including working with people from different backgrounds and communicating effectively across boundaries. My strength is my ability to communicate clearly and concisely and my patience when working with less patient people. My weakness is that I lack patience when it comes to people with little experience working in teams, such as younger students or newer employees who may not know what they are doing yet.

Conclusion

The Benedictine Value of reflection is very important as it helps one to think deeply about oneself and be mindful of one’s actions and how they affect themselves and others. This value is something that is easily translated into the DNP role. There are several components to this value regarding the DNP role. First is thinking about the quality of one’s care for the patient. Secondly, it is required to examine oneself for the ability to help a patient on both physical and mental levels, and finally, being mindful of one’s own emotions when performing specific tasks.
