Genesis is the part of the Old Testament, where the primeval history of the world is explained. It begins with the creation of the world. Right away, the story evokes questions. For example, how did the concepts of good and evil appear? God separates the light from darkness and pronounces the light good. Besides, before Adam and Eve taste the forbidden fruit – they are unaware of their nakedness, but afterward, they realize it is bad. The question is – based on which principle are things divided into good and bad? Why is light good? Why is nakedness bad? Why did God make humans naked if it was bad? Further, God curses the serpent for tempting Eve and says, “upon your belly, you shall go.”
Did the serpent have legs initially? Moreover, in the third chapter, God says, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil,” who does God refer to saying “one of us”? Does he mean angels? Yet, the creation of angels is not mentioned during the creation of the world. Finally, God sends his only two humans, Adam and Eve, to the earth; they have two children – Cain and Abel.
Cain murders Abel and is cursed by God with the following words “Whoever kills Cain will suffer sevenfold vengeance,” but who is supposed to kill Cain if there are just three humans on earth – himself, Adam, and Eve? Right after that, there is the following line: “Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch.” Where did Cain’s wife come from? There is only one way for her to appear, which is to be born to Adam and Eve. In this case, was she Cain’s sister? Further, Genesis describes one of Cain’s offspring called Lamech, saying, “Lamech took two wives” (at the same time). Is polygamy approved by God? Finally, when God is sorry for creating violent humans, he decides to destroy all of them and sends the Flood. Noah is the only righteous man God likes, but how come God allows Noah to bring his wife, his three sons and their three wives to the ark?
