Introduction

The shortage of physicians is becoming one of the most pressing issues on the agenda in the United States and worldwide. Recently, there has been a reduction in the number of medical staff, which hurts people’s health. This challenge was exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic when the demand for medical services was higher than the supply (Marć et al., 2019).

Moreover, there has always been a shortage of medical personnel in rural areas, and now it is common for people from villages to visit the nearest cities to consult doctors. Therefore, resources need to be optimized to enhance access to medical services, which can be accomplished with the help of innovative technologies. Thus, I need to describe the “Digital Medical Cabin” project and analyze my experience.

Reflective Discussion

Reporting and Responding

I recently read about the “Digital Medical Cabin”, which is a type of software development project. It is essential to mention that this development was created in France, with the government’s support, to solve the problem of the shortage of medical workers in hospitals (Baudier et al., 2020). Moreover, the stakeholders involved in the project, in addition to the French government, are medical organizations that have contributed to its implementation. In addition, the “Digital Medical Cabin” was not invented by Baudino immediately; the scientist spent seven years conducting research and experimenting with the team to create such a medical center (Baudier et al., 2020). The team helped the developer create and install software that would allow for real-time examination of patients from a distance.

The project’s goal was to create an office equipped with medical devices, and they would transmit information to doctors using the software. Therefore, this development resulted from the “Digital Medical Cabin,” which requires financial resources and specialists to create and maintain the system (Garg et al., 2020). However, these costs are justified, as there is a growing number of clients for such cabinets, and it is planned to install them in all regions where there is a shortage of doctors in rural areas. Indeed, the design was tested with the involvement of project teams, which confirmed its effectiveness.

It is worth noting that the project was created on the basis of a ready-made development. Before the actual presentation of the project, Baudino had been developing it for seven years (Baudier & Ammi, 2020). Therefore, there were no time limits for its implementation; there were problems with funding and scope. This is because software and medical devices are expensive components that medical organizations and the government agreed to finance for large volumes (Baudier & Ammi, 2020). Accordingly, when prototypes were created in the early stages of the project, there were financial issues.

Nevertheless, when I looked through the project information, I felt that the authors had created not only an innovative development but also found a way to solve a global problem. I assessed the complexity of creating the “Digital Medical Cabin” and investigated the reasons for the failure of the team’s first attempts. It appears to me that the project was challenging to implement because of the large number of devices that needed to be connected to the hospital’s servers. I think this project is a step towards progressive medicine because real-time doctors can receive data sent from the “Digital Medical Cabin” after conducting a remote examination of patients.

Relating

It should be clarified that my experience in project management cannot be correlated with the creation and management of the “Digital Medical Cabin”. This is because I have never been involved in large-scale digital projects, especially those that the government supports. Instead, I had a unique experience, namely, participating in website development and maintenance projects (Beaird et al., 2022). Hence, the digital projects were of a different type and aimed at commercial gain rather than addressing specific industry issues. Therefore, the conditions of creation were different, and my team and I only needed access to programs and equipment.

Furthermore, the projects did not require much funding, and their planning and development did not require a lot of time, unlike the “Digital Medical Cabin”. Moreover, the conditions were also different: I implemented projects in a local environment alongside several partners or sometimes independently. In contrast, “Digital Medical Cabin” requires the involvement of many specialists and the sourcing of components from various locations.

Reasoning

In addition, my skills and knowledge in digital projects are not enough to implement such large-scale projects. The developers used artificial intelligence technologies to create the “Digital Medical Cabin”. Meanwhile, I focus on search engine optimization and hypertext markup language, which will not allow me to cope with developing projects like “Digital Medical Cabin” (Holzinger et al., 2019).

Thus, it would be helpful for me to upgrade my knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence and, based on innovative developments, enhance my statistical skills and ability to administer and manage all connected systems. Furthermore, the artificial intelligence theory is a field of knowledge that considers the regularities of building and functioning intelligent systems based on multidimensional receptor-effector neural-like growing networks (Schiavone & Ferretti, 2021). Consequently, creating websites, which is my area of expertise, does not require this knowledge.

Reconstructing

In order to create and manage digital projects that are helpful to society, it is imperative to reconsider my line of work. I need additional training to gain theoretical knowledge about digital projects based on software development and artificial intelligence (Holzinger et al., 2019). Currently, my experience does not allow me to participate fully in such projects, but I can analyze the experience of others and develop a digital project based on artificial intelligence in the future.

However, to achieve this goal, in addition to additional training, I need to receive financial support to organize a team and purchase materials. In addition, this course will help me in my future activities, as I can apply the concepts learned in my practical work. For example, digital transformation theory will help demonstrate the rationality of financing a digital project to future investors (Holzinger et al., 2019). Therefore, I will be able to engage in innovative activities on a large scale.

Conclusion

Thus, my digital project management license is less significant for society than the “Digital Medical Cabin” project. Meanwhile, I desire to learn and improve my knowledge to participate in innovative projects. Additionally, the course enables me to understand theories that can help me implement existing digital projects and participate in their development. Therefore, I want to continue studying digital project management and adapt my knowledge to such areas as artificial intelligence and the administration and management of all connected systems.
