Flint was previously known as a very prosperous city and for its achievements in education and the lumber industry. Alas, the latter lead to a dark event known as the Flint Water Crisis, which is still present today. It was caused by waste being poured out into the river, thus, contaminating clean water. This event has led to several alarming consequences, some of which will be later depicted in the text.

The idea of environmental crises impacting some communities more severely than others could be defined by societal biases, corruption or both at the same time. There are implications that racism may have contributed to the lack of awareness of this atrocious event. While it is a debatable viewpoint, there is no denying that Flint is a city with the majority of the population being African American. This crisis has negatively affected the poor and their financial status. The contaminated water has lead to a number of diseases and disabilities, which, in turn, has left the city’s population with a large number of healthcare bills. Moreover, the citizens of Flint have the most expensive water bills, thus, negatively affecting their financial status. They have put some of Flint’s underprivileged citizens in severe debt.

The city’s water crisis can be interpreted as a sign of environmental inequality due to the fact that similar events have been prevented or eradicated in other locations. The government of the state has been actively trying to silence any reports of the consequences of water contamination. It is believed that the politicians’ wealth and status played a huge role in them not being held accountable for this atrocious event. That, as a matter of fact, is yet another explanation to this event.

In conclusion, the Flint Water Crisis is an event that still concerns people to this day. The contaminated water has become the cause of multiple health problems, including permanent disabilities. The reason why such an event may affect some communities more than others can be defined by societal biases, corruption or both. The poor were severely impacted by this event due to the large number of healthcare and water bills. Similar cases have been prevented or eradicated in other locations, which implies that it is a sign of environmental inequality. This is why this event is rather concerning to this day.
