Introduction
Internet telephony denotes every kind of telephony service where there is digital data transmission over the Internet. Instead of using analog landlines, this technique makes use of internet protocols. The Internet Telephony technology has become an ultimate choice for individuals and businesses since its broadband is high. Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) has many capabilities, and it is cheaper than analog phones. VoIP has powerful features that are not available in regular phone services. Internet telephony has impacted many lives and has led to ethical, social, and political issues in the contemporary world.
Impact
Internet telephony has made my calling convenient and most effective since the cost of calling is reduced. I have enjoyed excellent services as the technology uses an internet protocol (I.P.) connection that guarantees quality services, an attribute that is not available in regular telephone lines (Kfoury & Khoury, 2018). VoIP has made domestic calling for me cheaper due to it offering affordable telephone services than analog landlines.
There are instances when some calls can even be made for free due to internet telephony. Internet telephony has enabled me to appreciate the mobility of services since there are no physical restrictions associated with it. VoIP is a system that has helped me to multitask due to the versatility of its features. The system has given me room for more productivity since multiple activities can be done simultaneously, hence saving time.
Making conference calls has been possible with internet telephony since all calls utilize a joined data network making efficient participation. I did not incur additional costs while making conference calls as I used to while using traditional systems. The service has been an added benefit to me in addition to what I had paid for. I have been able to manage video conferencing at a lower price when using internet telephony.
Interacting with clients has become efficient with internet telephony since internet phones are easily configured and integrated into video conferencing, providing video, remote, and voice meetings (Lin et al., 2018). VoIP has therefore been a reliable system for me and has played a significant role in my productiveness. My viewpoint is that this system can be helpful and effective to anyone who wants to be productive at a lower cost.
Issues
VoIP has provided technical solutions to the telephone network, therefore, is advantageous in the contemporary world. Since the system can be used for social networking by different groups, tracking information is not possible for some service providers. The VoIP use leads to complete anonymity for individuals, leading to increased crime against universal ethical standards. There can be a rise in identity theft and vishing cases, which eventually leads to the stealing of personal information from the victims (Kumar & Roy, 2021). The use of internet telephony also affects society, especially the family. The family reliance on digital communication tools leads to conflicts between teenagers and their parents. However, adolescent teenagers lack social skills, which makes them neglect their society and family relationships.
Internet telephony can also lead to the risk of depression, alienation, and isolation from society due to high dependency on digital communication tools. The internet telephony system is also prone to malware intrusion that poses a risk to the government. Malware can cause important information by the government to be leaked or lost. There are also political secrets that can be accessed when individuals use VoIP. If the internet connection is lost, it can also be problematic for essential communications to be made, sometimes resulting in irrelevant delays.
Conclusion
Internet telephony is an essential tool that has enhanced lives in the contemporary world. Technology has made communication faster and easier as it has improved peoples’ contact regardless of their location and time. Productivity can be increased since multiple tasks can be done at a time waiting for the completion of other services. This approach has enhanced growth in businesses and other aspects of life. Since internet telephony is done over the internet, the system is associated with different issues. These issues are threats to the security and privacy of individuals’ lives. Necessary actions should therefore be taken to help minimize these risks of internet telephony. In a nutshell, internet telephony has impacted many lives in the ethical, social, and political facets of life.
