The ethical self-assessment is the effective tool to pay attention to the attributes and qualities associated with the ethical aspects which require the further development because the concentration on answering the questions makes a person thinking about the complex ethical issues in detail. After completing the ethical self-assessment, I focused on analyzing the factors which can influence my ethical decision making.
I have learned that my leadership qualities associated with ethical decision making are developed enough in order to influence my communication with colleagues or team members to persuade them to focus more on the effective resolution of the ethical issues, but I need to pay more attention to initiating the discussion of the most controversial questions and to encourage the persons’ involvement in the discussion.
Following the ethical self-assessment results, I can state that my actions in relation to ethical decision making are consistent and respond to the accepted professional ethical standards. Thus, I am inclined to focus on the immediate and detailed discussion of the problem and further conflict resolution in order to satisfy the needs of all the parties involved in the discussion or conflict. I can determine my strengths in relation to ethical decision making which was highlighted with the help of the self-assessment.
I am inclined to develop positive relationships with the team and clients while focusing on the principles of equitable treatment of patients (Edwards et al., 2011, p. 1654). Furthermore, I respect diversity and the visions and opinions of the other persons. It is important for me to draw the people’s attention to ethical standards and mechanisms to contribute to effective decision making and conflict resolution.
However, if I actively participate in the discussion of the controversial ethical problem and propose the effective resolutions according to the ethical standards and codes, it is rather difficult for me to start the discussion and draw the Board’s attention to the problem. This behavioral pattern can influence my ethical decision making that is why it is necessary to develop the associated leadership attributes.
The ACHE ethical standards provide the basics for making important decisions in relation to different ethical questions. That is why the ACHE standards influence my ethical decision making significantly because I operate the norms and standards presented in the ACHE Code of Ethics directly.
From this point, the resolution of the problematic issues or ethical decision making can be irrelevant without reference to the principles of resolving and discussing different personal, professional, and social conflicts or issues (Botes, 2000, p. 1077). Addressing the ethical uncertainties or concerns, I refer to the ACHE standards in order to develop my approach in relation to ethical decision making.
Focusing on the decision-making processes, I can state that I also follow my individual ethics along with the ACHE standards and principles of ethical decision making. To correlate the individual ethical visions with the professional ethical standards in order to develop the ability in resolving ethical conflicts, it is necessary to determine the basic ethical values important for me as a personality and as a professional.
I share the idea that a person should follow definite ethical standards without references to the profession. From this point, my individual ethical norms contribute to expanding my vision of such professional ethical principles and concepts as beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice in relation to the clients or colleagues.
I also avoid facilitating discrimination in any forms as well as any discriminating practices which can be implemented or observed in the health care organization. I am inclined to promote the equal access of all the persons to the healthcare services in spite of their status, and this position is correlated with the ACHE standards (ACHE Code of Ethics, 2013; Gupta, 2011, p. 958).
The ethical decision-making processes are based on the developed leadership and communication qualities along with the development of ethical knowledge. The aspects of my ethical decision making which are connected with following the ethical principles appropriately meet the standards provided by the ACHE Code of Ethics.
Thus, these attributes and skills are developed effectively to make the ethically right decisions to meet the interests of the clients and team members. Nevertheless, it is necessary to concentrate on developing the leadership qualities in order not only to encourage the discussions of the ethically controversial issues but also to initiate these discussions and direct them according to the ethical standards.
To improve ethical decision making, it is necessary to focus more on the opportunities to start the discussion of the ethical issues immediately after identifying the controversial points.
I should focus on using the ethical mechanisms in order to react to the ethical concerns and observed issues more openly to provide myself with the opportunity to identify the problem, analyze and resolve it appropriately, according to the set ethical standards and principles. Thus, ethical self-assessment is important to analyze the abilities to ethical decision making developed according to the fixed standards.
