The issue of the legalization of marijuana in the territory of the state is not unambiguous, therefore it is analyzed by a large number of specialists. One of the best sources for studying this issue I consider the Marion’s and Hill’s book Marijuana 360. This research paper shows different points of view and the potential risks and benefits that the state will receive from legalization (Marion & Hill, 2019). The most effective argument in favor of this process is the economic benefit for the state (Marion & Hill, 2019). The fact is that in the event of legalization, the drug business will suffer critically, and sales taxes will go to the state budget. Another argument is revealed in the film CNN, which talks about the lack of great harm to the population (Allen Peake, 2014). The authors are sure that marijuana is used in some medicines, and also has a positive effect on the emotional state of the individual (Allen Peake, 2014). In addition, addicted people are already buying drugs illegally; also those who have no dependence and desire will remain uninvolved in the use.
There is a statistic problem as people with opposing views give different numbers to support their point of view. However, this information shows that the majority of Americans are in favor of legalization. The fact is that opponents of marijuana intend to reduce the number to show the irrelevance of the issue, but sociological surveys show the opposite (Marion & Hill, 2019). Attempts are now underway to reform and legislate in South Dakota, where the government plans to limit the population’s access to cannabis (Jaeger, 2022). A 2020 law to legalize adult use in South Dakota was overturned by the state Supreme Court in November 2021 (Jaeger, 2022). The law is planned to be edited and revised in some of its parts. The authorities are taking the initiative on the permissible dosage per person, as well as the age limit. The issue is also relevant for the state of California, where reforms of punitive drug laws are actively taking place (Jaeger, 2022). I have always been in favor of legalization, and thanks to this study, my position has only strengthened. However, I believe that it is necessary to impose restrictions, in particular, on the age and quantity of such goods. However, the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes should be encouraged, but should not be extended to children. If I were Matt and Page Figgy, I would ban my kids from using marijuana because it is against the law.
