Introduction
Literature is a very powerful tool in any society since it gives the people a voice, a voice to critic and talk about issues which would bring tension if they are discussed openly. Literature therefore gives people a chance to even critic the leaders who make laws that only benefit them and they forget about the people who they are supposed to represent. Film as a form of literature is used in the Egyptian society to critic the lack of morals in the society. The society is morally corrupt and is not considerate of the weak in the society. For instance the society is stratified according to the wealth that one has. Jobs and other services are given through corrupt means and in consideration to the family that one comes from.
Main body
In the film ‘Imarit Ya’qubian (Yaccubian Building), the plight of the poor is highlighted. The poor people represented by the working class in Egypt have a lot of problems. In the film the writer is trying to condemn the corrupt ways in which people acquire jobs, the situation of a young man who is denied a chance to work in the government just because he is from a poor family. The film critics these crude ways of the Egyptians, normally jobs are supposed to be offered according to the qualifications of a person, regardless of his/her background. Through literature the writer of the film is able to condemn the rules applied by the Egyptian government.
Literature enables people to talk about the ills of the society. This is because the writers use abstract characters and therefore no one can claim a personal attack. Through these characters the film is able to talk about any issue in the society. For instance the film Imarit Ya’qubian (Yaccubian Building) is able to condemn the government about the mistreatment of the people. This is not taken as a personal attack against the government because the film has abstract characters representing real people and situations in the society. A government represented in the film is corrupt and it represents the Egyptian society. So literature has the role of commenting about the situations affecting the people in the society since the writers are free to comment about anything in the society. The film highlights how the government officials are corrupt, whereby the jobs are not given to the people who deserve them but rather to corrupt people who do not even deserve the positions that they hold. The uneducated people who have money buy their way in life. For example they are able to even bribe their way into parliament, leaving out the people who are educated and deserve to get the positions. Through this film the writer is able to put his point across to the corrupt government officials. The bad ways that are in the society are addressed in the film.
Literature also helps to give the people a place in the society. Through the film, the writer tries to give a voice to the women and give them a place in the society. The injustices done against the women are condemned. For instance, in the film women are raped literally and metaphorically. This is because they do not have the money and they need the jobs in order to sustain their families. Since their bosses know that they need the job they abuse and harass them on a daily basis. Literature uses metaphors in order to pass a certain message which would have been almost impossible to pass. The men and in women in the film are raped metaphorically to mean that they are denied their rights in the society. The government on the other hand does not use the laws to protect the people but uses the laws to further oppress the people. Furthermore these actions are immoral. This shows that through literature people can be able to talk about issues that oppress them without the fear of being incriminated. Literature can thus be used to expose corrupt leaders and organizations in the society.
The film tries to incorporate the Egyptian society into one thing, in that everyone is given an equal opportunity and the rights of people are protected by the government. The rights of the poor are especially supposed to be protected. This is in line with the reflections of Galal Amin. According to him every one should be given a chance to rise up the social ladder. Every one has the ability to succeed in life. The film also comments about how the government officials are corruption. According to Galal Amins reflections a government is capable of controlling the efforts of every society. So the leaders should try and improve the situation of the society. Most of the characters in the film are poor; this is because wealth is circulating among few individuals.
The film in some way supports the reflections of Galal Amin in that he supported a society that was all inclusive. That is a society that encourages political, social and economic growth and also supported an all inclusive education system that would enable the Egyptians to compete successfully. The introduction of Arabic in schools enables the education system to be somewhat equal. The film also advocates for equality. Let every one be treated equally and be given a chance to succeed in life.
Conclusion
According to the film, the society is not fair to the poor and the working class in Egypt. This is mainly because of the inequalities that are there in Egypt. The government can do a lot to save the situation, for example, the corrupt government officials should not be allowed to work in the government. This situation can help to reduce the number of corrupt officials and therefore ensure that the people will get their rights. This is because jobs will be offered to people according to merit but not because of their social class or through corruption.
Poverty is another reason that makes the people to be exploited in Egypt. The government should have some form of financial aid programme to help the people who need financial assistance. This will help to reduce the number of people who sell their body for money. This situation can help also encourage the Egyptians to safeguard their morals. These remedies will help to stop corruption and reduce immorality.
